DJ has a LOT to say about certain GOP governors that are now crossing the line, in his opinion, and absolutely putting politics over public safety.  Only adding to his endearing disdain for Florida's Death-by-Desantis, he points out that currently the dipshit in chief down there is crusading against any local school district that has decided it needs a mask mandate by threatening to not pay those school districts.  Sounds like executive overreach to our host - probably because it is - and all of this is going down while Florida leads the nation in CHILD COVID HOSPITALIZATIONS!  Despite all that spectacular stupidity, DJ warns that Mississippi is the state to watch since their GOP Governor just told everyone that they were in good shape and then left the state to hang with some of his fellow science deniers and fundraise.  But meanwhile, the head of the Mississippi hospital system, specifically in Jackson, held a press conference saying that the hospitals there were "days away from failure".  Mississippi has also requested, and is receiving, federal medical personnel to bail them the eff out of the COVID mess they put themselves in now.  Chalk that up to another installment of "why do my tax dollars keep going to states we don't need anymore?"

It's the EIGHTH YEAR of the BOX, and no one seems to care less than DJ.  He does, however, manage to thank all the listeners for making any of this possible and talks about the countdowns he thinks he used to do for the BOXiversary shows as well as all of the "good ideas" he had for this year's - but managed to not do.  But by The Bottom Ten of The Top Twenty Dj has an awful lot to say about good information, where to get it and how f*cking easy that is to do.  He uses the 7 minute conversation he had with Jimmy and Mike about the new "The Suicide Squad" movie - not a sponsor - and all of the information he was able to gather from it as the baseline for just how easy it is to acquire expert information, from trusted sources, these days.  And (sternly) points out that everyone has access to experts within their spheres of influence, but people need to do a better job of choosing those actual experts (local doctors, researchers, front-line workers, etc.) instead of choosing the other "experts" (politicians, dipsh*ts on facebook, their loudest friend, etc.).

DJ also engages the chat in the fairly divisive issue of separating art from the artist when it comes to really sh*tty people.  The chat considers whether or not the Harry Potter universe can be separated from JK Rowling and her "simply disgusting" views on transgendered people and DJ suggests that indeed they can.  And he offers up that everyone needs to draw their own lines in the sand for what they will and will not support citing that he himself has very public and very disliked social views by at least half the country and a solid 90% of social media and yet he still believes people can - and should - like the music he puts out because that "art" is very much NOT an extension of those views or representative of that side of this particular artist.  He uses Rage Against the Machine as an example of what that extension might look like in a band and then proceeds to throw Chick Fil A under the bus for being yet another sh*t-social company, that millions have no problem giving their money to, despite there being other, better and more socially conscious options, like Popeyes - also not a sponsor.

DJ wonders if you're off your game every week, is that just your new game?  The big man is tired and underslept - again - but still made it to the gym this morning.  He says how much he enjoys practically being asleep for half of his cardio workout, and why habits you can keep in the morning tend to me more successful.  He has a lot to say about the role of "common sense" in any conversation, and how that needs to apply more than ever, these days.  He asks the audience to ask themselves if it's more likely that Capitol Hill Police Officers were reading from a "script" that Nancy Pelosi wrote for them, or were they just reading from prepared statements - like every single other person he's ever seen testify before Congress does?  He urges people to not think what he thinks just because he says something, but rather to run it past their own "gut" and see what their own logics tells them makes sense.  He touches on the passing of so many musicians this week, especially Dusty Hill, and laments the necessarily darker world that remains once these specific points of light burn out.

DJ also talks about the difference between being a great band and at the point where "magic" happens.  He cites Fuel and Alice In Chains as prime examples of both.  He also reminds us (and himself) about the time he was in Jackknife Stiletto and suggests the things he would do differently and the things he would absolutely do again.  He reads off some (very cool) Olympic gymnastics news and points out that despite what people think, some of the best music ever created is still being created right now.

DJ wonders if you have to tell someone that you're a 'good person', are you? And then proceeds to dive deep into some R9, and local scene, history for some context into why he's so tripped up by a recent comment someone has made to him.  He also manages to backstory the whole conversation and cites a recent article out of Alabama about a doctor dealing with end-stage COVID patients as the root cause.  Despite getting a good amount of sh*t for the article, he still thinks it's important and worth everyone's time to read. He also has a lot to say about misinformation and its recurrent place in history citing how at one time "the world is round" was misinformation as well as was "it's the fault of the Jews."  But he advises you to look at the sources of that "information" and points out that you'd do better to accept misinformation as "new ideas" when it comes from scholars and thinkers than you would when it comes from politicians or other people with clear and obvious agendas.

DJ also talks about how great "The Nation" is, especially the long-standing staff writers and why, despite the ridiculous "fake news" outbreak of the last 5 years, the fourth estate is so damn important in general, and very much so now.  He reads an article from the publication about our newest spaceman and how Jeff Bezos has been able to pull off so much accounting/tax-loophole/rich guy bullsh*t that not only does he regularly not pay income tax, he even qualified for a $4000 child tax credit for his kids - and if everyone isn't ready to burn it all down after hearing that, then DJ doesn't think they ever will be.

DJ is now physically closer to the BOX but is still late, although, not supremely.  With neither tomatoes nor sour cream in tow, our unsupreme leader pines away for his lost soft taco supreme or yesteryear while managing to over-complain about the hard taco supreme - that any child soldier in Uganda would probably kill for - actually.  Our host breaks down his cardiovascular disfunction and lets us all in on the ridiculous internal battles he's having just trying to be less of a fat piece of sh*t.  He's also apparently got the "wrong kind" of body dysmorphia and is still amazed every time he catches a glimpse of his true form these days.  Ironically enough, he hasn't eaten yet today, and is lightheaded from it so if he's making less sense than usual, that's probably it.

DJ also talks about being uncomfortable at first during his BIMP interview because of the sheer professionalism of the setup, and tries to plug the appearance but doesn't know when it airs or what will air on the podcast vs. the patreon - so he's basically useless here.  He also mixes up Ballyhoo! and The Expendables as well as covers and originals, plays us a little of what Noodle thinks about Chino from Deftones and has a lot of kind words to say about Queensryche, their songwriting and how on-point "Revolution Calling" is right now, despite being released over 30 years ago.

DJ wants to know who in NY could actually live on $15K a year, but first...  DJ is quite underslept, again, and it shows throughout the BOX.  He manages to get in some rambling about the new Craving Strange non-promotion promotion and is going to keep an eye on it just to see how it goes even just as a social networking experiment.  He has plenty to say about what's just happened in Haiti and how he can't get over how stupid the average American is when they "can't believe something like this could happen" given what just went down last December right here at home.  He's also got a lot of contempt for those that insist unemployed people are just "lazy" because of the emergency unemployment benefits that are still in effect until September, and he all but dares one of these dipshits to "opt" to live on that money - in New York - before they say another stupid word about it.

DJ also talks about how great it must be to just jump into a working, motivated and forward-moving band, and then recalls that he's actually done that - once.  He clarifies what he meant last week about "country twang" in the face of pushback from #teamUppity and also manages to introduce a new segment "According to Noodle" which goes about as well as you'd expect.

A semblance of normalcy has returned to the BOX and DJ has finally made it back to the gym.  But not without issue!  Our host walks us through how his social anxiety works, in general, and specifically as it pertains to things in a post-COVID world.  Despite being "averagely" smart and a good "understanderer", he is unable to handle these 'return to normal' situations properly, all while excelling at any chance to self-sabotage what he's trying to accomplish here.  He seems to have a remarkably high amount of anxiety when approaching a "2-door situation", but it turns out he's in good company with almost all of the chat having the same issue. 

DJ also talks about the stupidity of "revenge travel" and wonders how people are feeling about jumping back into things given what we've learned about the world over the past 15 months - and the people in it.  He's also got more kind words for the new Bo Burnham special and finds a kindred spirit of sorts in Jeff from "I Call Fives" during this week's Bacon Is My Podcast interview.
