This week on the BOX...

DJ has a lot to say about working in post-Covid America.  He notes that companies are starting to charge more for everything as the world begins to step out of the woods, and while he understands that companies have a lot of ground to make up, the country still hasn't figured out that you can't keep raising prices on things if you refuse to raise wages that people can earn.  And pricing people out of the ability to afford to live is stupid, shortsighted and not even remotely the only dumb thing that companies are doing.  Our host shares a real-life story about his grandfather and how it was that employers and employees really excelled when both sides adhered to their social contract.  But points out that neither side is holding up their end anymore and that's why everything always seems to suck at most day jobs.  And he's worried that people are simply "not smart enough" to understand this stuff, and they really should be quite ashamed of themselves for that.  Also the house lights are off at the BOX and DJ isn't entirely sure it's even Thursday.

DJ talks a little about some REVEL 9 news, and a problem he's having trying to navigate things currently on the table in front of him.  He truly doesn't know what to do and leans on the BOX chat (#teamuppity) for advice

This week on the BOX...

DJ is better.  And alive.  And in the spirit of Easter, immediately compares his plight last week to that of Jesus. He talks a little about applied kinesiology and how it relates to his post-deathbed trip to Uncle Giuseppe's along with a list of foods he thinks would be bad to throw up. He also has some Spotify opinions.  He thinks there ought to be an incognito mode for the streaming service so that you can listen to something off the beaten path without it messing up your Discover Weekly.  He goes on to blame the Allman Brothers Band for the Grateful Dead showing up on his doorstep this week but also spends some time debating himself on the issue, and decides that maybe his own initial idea isn't actually a good one.  (Way to take a stand, my dude.) 

DJ talks a little about what's going on in the world and urges his listeners to include some international news in their daily diet.  He also spends a good amount of time talking about his love of Candlebox, Stone Temple Pilots and Kix and where they all fit in his musical landscape and why they are all so damn important to him.

This week on the BOX...

DJ is dying... almost... again.  This week, our host is hella sick - but not in the way all the cool kids are.  He decided to go out and get some classic food poisoning - just to be special - and is paying a serious price for it.  Our pasty-white BOX captain tells his tale of fighting the food borne parasite army, losing the battle and his new reflections on COVID.  (Yeah, it's not the most coherent BOX.)  Because of his current brush with "death", DJ wonders why so many people aren't taking COVID more seriously, and uses too much detail to explain why even hanging out with only one person at a time can still make you a "COVID ManSlutWhore" if it's a different person every time.  DJ also seems to have a lot of "favorite" bands. 

Weed is legal in New York! Our host isn't up on all the details, but fear not, the chat is all over this.  He talks about what he knows so far, why he's been a fan of the tax benefits of legal weed for a decade and his on-again, off-again relationship with the flower.  He also hopes his local County Executives don't Eff this up again.  DJ also has a lot of kind words for Candlebox and Testament.

This week on the BOX...

DJ wants to know why people post the things they post.  This week, he deep dives into something a fellow-songwriter of his has recently posted on facebook and attempts to ask the "big questions", but instead only comes up with "why would you do that?" and "what does he mean by that?"  Not exactly hard-hitting, but it gives our host enough material to cover the back half of The Top Twenty.  He also admits to being completely exhausted - exhausted enough to mix up his Les Paul and his PRS (does he even play guitar?) all while trying to highlight that he doesn't play bass.  Also Jimmy G. gets vaccinated and you can now track his microchip via the Hard Rock Lunchbox app - not actually though.

Also on this weeks episode, Kaz hates Eric Clapton.  This changes absolutely nothing in the world, but it does force DJ into quite the rabbit hole of music - much to the delight of the chat.  DJ also discusses the coming weed legalization in New York as well as why it's a lot of work to follow both Mikey and Jimmy on Instagram whenever a new BIMP episode comes out.

DJ is the worst employee that Internet Radio has ever seen.  He talks about the upcoming annual RadioThon at 99WNRR and how he's not a part of it this year.  He cites the fact that he's dropped the ball enough times so far that the station knows better than to even bother asking him.  He acknowledges that it's not so much a failing of "wanting" to do the job, but recognizes that he's just overworked and he'll give 110% to whatever he's committed to, but the moment that task is complete, he's already late to the next one.

DJ also talks about how important it is that R9 practices without him from time to time.  Even if it sometimes ends up with different versions of the same song being played and some serious wagers being placed as bandmembers can't agree in the absence of the one true authority.  DJ also has a lot of praise for Ben Moody and points out why sometimes the "magic" really takes more than just one person.

DJ is all about fan support and what it actually looks like these days.  He talks about his experience with true fans and fandom and how powerful those individuals can be in carrying a band from point to point.  He also has a great deal of appreciation for them and knows just how important they are and is hella annoyed when other bands abuse that or take it for granted - and has plenty to say about it.  He also tries to make the point - again - that the "hype" over what you're putting out isn't the only thing people are looking at, and that if your "actual" product doesn't hold up, it really doesn't matter how much you try and fake it.  DJ also has a really big problem with inflating likes on YouTube and the silliness over at MMC.

DJ also talks about advances in charger cable technology (riveting, i know) and has way too much to say about this week's new music.  He thinks ADTR slept on the true single off the new record and appreciates (what he imagines to be) the process that Chevelle undertook when crafting "Endlessly" from NIRATIAS.  He's also sweet on the new Dino Skatepark single!

DJ is down to solve problems... just like Vanilla Ice, apparently.  Still stuck on the "SomeoneElseWillDoIt" theme from a few weeks ago, our host has more stories from recent events - both good and bad - highlighting the fact that today's world is a mix of people that "do" and people that "don't".  And there's a whole lot more of the latter, unfortunately.  He goes through an example of a "do" at his bank and a few "don't"s from the past week at work and with soccer, all the while trying to point out how failing to do even your most basic job can affect the lives of a lot of other people from just being an inconvenience to absolutely ruining the lives of high school girls - not that they need any more people doing that.

DJ also talks about major shifts in music through the decades and how hard it is for relevant bands to maintain that relevance when it happens.  He cites a few true geniuses of the industry and how they did, but lands smack down on what is possibly the greatest musical pivot of all time - in his opinion, of course.  Also, DJ explains why he thinks all mediocre bands should hurry down to Texas and Mississippi.

DJ is a "top fan" after all, "do you think I like it?", mad respect (and irrational anger) for mobile deposits and MORE!

DJ enjoys being part of the chat, helping out his friends and hating on vegan cream cheese.  (And if you don't think those things are related, you haven't been listening to the BOX enough.)  DJ had a great time hanging out in the chat for The After Hours interview of Craving Strange last night.  He says how much he worries about "overstaying" his welcome whenever he's a guest in a public forum like that, but points out that it's an important part of supporting other bands saying that people tend not to remember just the content, but whether or not they had a really good time.  And that's the take away he's shooting for.  Also, DJ says that if you're a vegan but you like cream cheese enough to eat "vegan cream cheese", you should probably reconsider your initial stance here, because eating the "fake stuff" is really not where you want to be headed, especially if you're trying to do right by your own body.  #foodforthought.

DJ also talks about why the "greatest shows" to bands aren't always what people think would constitute as "greatest" - at all.  He references Jimmy G's "greatest show" story from last night's interview and tries to put it in the context of the arguably other great shows Craving Strange has done.  He then goes on to tell one of his "greatest show" moments, which is still probably only great to him - and that's good enough.  Also, "Ashes" still isn't out.

DJ loves the internet, eating bananas and birthday reminders.  He talks about the true greatness of the internet - even social media, and how impossible life today would be without it. He talks about the English-speaking resistance in Myanmar and also sprinkles a little Alexei Navalny knowledge on the BOX as examples.  He also gets a little help from facebook in order to acquire some banana-eating info but also wonders how - with all of the facebook, internet, smartphone & calendar reminders - it is still possible to forget someone's birthday - unless you truly want to.

DJ says he's never had anyone tell him that any of his "liberal agenda" are bad ideas - except when religion kicks in - so he wonders just how liberal the people he argues with think they "aren't".  He also discusses how terribly performed classic Punk music is.   And recalls his many fights about just that with Noodle during the post-production of "Do Know Harm".  He's also never done X.
