It's time for CHATastrophe XXMMI.  That's right, the chat is in charge; they've picked the songs, the bumpers and the topics.  But that doesn't stop DJ from getting a word - or 3000 - in at the top of the BOX.  He has an awful lot to say about the chat, and has noticed a very disturbing trend over the past six months; they're growing up!  He talks about what it's like being the legal guardian of such an unruly teenage chat and admits that while he would certainly sign a permission slip for the group, he has zero control over the petulant child these days.  He also points out the irony of how sometimes a really good idea starts out as nothing more than a really bad idea.  And vice versa.

DJ is asked to do (and kinda does) a breakdown of two of the biggest pop songs of all time.  He talks about what possible qualifications he has to do such a "compare and contrast" assignment and discusses why some of those qualities lead him to be quite the producer - but only sometimes.  [Unfortunately, since the breakdown is of copywritten music, we can't release it publicly, but send us an email, and we'll get you a copy of it... hardrocklunchbox (at) gmail.com]

This week on the BOX...

DJ is grateful... AF!  He talks about his (long-ass) interview the night before with The After Hours Review and thanks everyone within the sound of his voice for showing up and making it a success.  He also says he's trying (desperately) to take stock in the things around him - right now - and breathe it all in.  He says that having gratitude for these moments is the only thing you can really do in the face of certain eventualities.  He points out that most of the people around him now weren't there at the beginning and weren't around even a couple of years ago, but others were.  And it's ok that people come into this when they need to and then leave, even if, sometimes, it's really hard on the person that stays.   DJ also points out that the only way to track the evolution of the beard is on The Top Twenty.  #shamelessplug

This week on the BOX...

DJ wants to know if someone else will do it.  And if so, when.  And if not, why not?  He also wants to know if there is some website he needs to go to in order to get on that list.  Which list?  The list that practically everyone else seems to be on that allows you to just coast by in life because some other idiot (like him) is going to come along and do whatever it is you need done.

DJ also says that The Top Twenty is not going so well, and he's OK with that - or is he?  He takes full responsibility for not properly promoting it, but fails miserably when trying to explain why it is at all worth watching. Unless of course you're into excessive hand motions and/or winter-level facial hair.  Because, who isn't?

This week on the BOX...

DJ urges person over party and takes issue with bullies. Our host tries to avoid politics (again) but ends up quite "politically adjacent" talking about the courage it takes to stand up to bullies especially when the risk is very apparent.  He also says it's quite a bit more important to be a character of conscience then a blind follower.  He does, however, admit to jumping off more than a few bridges in his youth just because his friends did - despite some very good advice from his mother to the contrary.

DJ also talks about how douchy (douchey?) he thinks it is when people have guitars in the background of zoom meetings all while discussing why he ALSO has a guitar in the background during the filming of The Top Twenty.  He also manages to drop some REVEL 9 trivia along the way.

This week on the BOX...

The "Media Wars" are heating up again, and DJ has a message for all the people that are (he guesses) just too stupid to get a handle on what's actually happening around them. He discusses the - very much still alive - art of true journalism, what to look for in it, and what the signs are when you are aren't consuming it. He talks about the difference between "news" and just believing your own bullsh*t and how anyone asserting any "fact" on social media in a meme, gif or colorful picture is probably just an idiot, and it is most certainly not going to be "news", and probably won't even be "true".

DJ also talks about the insurrection at the capitol on the sixth of January and specifically targets all the people that are now running for cover by scapegoating the Right's biggest boogeyman of the 21st century - Antifa. He also points out how it is exactly that blaming of other groups that highlights what actual losers and inferior American's these people actually are.

It's the 2020 "Best of the BOX"!  DJ counts down the 25 most played songs on the BOX for all of 2020.  There are more than few surprises, some mistakes, an unhappy chat and plenty of GOATs.

Before getting things rolling though, DJ takes a minute to reflect on what the BOX means to him, what he's seen it mean to others and how none of this would even work if everyone wasn't in it with him.  It's some serious year-end gratitude as only the BOX can do it.

DJ's pretty sure that it's not what you think it means.  Our host dances perilously close to politics in order to make a point about the dangers of staking your claim on a label - or worse, what you think that label means.  He takes issue with anyone "proud to be what liberals hate" and points out what liberals - like him - actually hate, and how far on the wrong side of history you'd be to be any of those things.

DJ also talks about the greatest Cheap Trick interview he's ever heard and what it means to him that Rick Nielsen can only write with Robin Zander's voice.  And how amazing it is that he even found the person to be "his voice" at all.  Q also manages to capture the true essence of the BOX in gif form.

DJ asks "Where we at?".  He opens up the show talking about virtual learning, pivots into supporting our military service men and women, makes his way over to the Florida Congressmen that thinks it's "funny" to sleep with 15-year-old girls and ends up truly wondering where all the humanity has gone and if it will ever come back?  And where does that leave us now?

DJ is also sporting a new camera angle for his new show on Strangerhood TV.  He considers cleaning up the background some (he won't)  and appreciates looking better "in frame" now that he's wearing more layers (he didn't), but still doesn't like being videotaped - or videophoned or whatever we're calling it.  DJ also hopes that Dino Skatepark had a nice snowday.

This week on the BOX...

DJ is hella disappointed in Long Island bands.  He talks about sales, shares and all-around support for the new REVEL 9 record that releases globally and digitally, tomorrow.  He points out that while the local fans have been beyond great, the only support he's gotten from ANY Long Island- or NYC-based band has been from Craving, Something Heavy and Jackknife, all of whom were somehow involved in the project anyway. 

He also points out that PA, NJ & CT bands have been quite supportive and are way more what DJ would have expected from his local scene considering how long he's been a part of it.  The lesson is definitely being learned here, but DJ is unsure how that is going to look once the world starts getting back to normal.  He admits he doesn't hold many grudges, but he does hold some.  And this is shaping up to be a doozy.
