DJ has been incensed - once again - by a meme on facebook... and no one on the BOX is even remotely surprised.  Our host goes on a tirade about how the "rich and powerful" in this country are never going to do something in your best interest - unless it happens to align with theirs.  But no one with money, power, station or influence will give up as much as an inch for you, or for us.  He is offended by monster-big companies playing us by "doing good things" with the money they've taken from us and so DJ promises to never round up for charity with a big company again.  #fuckthem  He's also made some changes around the BOX and it doesn't seem to help one bit.

DJ drop some old school R9 history when he recounts the events that would lead to their fairly lengthy alliance with "Cracked Allice" and has some fond memories of the band as well as the time spent with them.  He also has a lot of kind worlds for Our Lady Peace, Bo Burnham's new Netflix special and Real Friends' former singer Dan Lambton.  He's also (finally) optimistic about that bands future.

DJ talks about why bands are just so damn desperate for attention. And why they have to be.  He talks about the kinds of attention there are, and which kinds tend to find their way to unsigned bands.  He also discusses the differences in the way some musicians handle that attention; how some crave it above all else, and others tend to shy away from it whenever possible, while still realizing the necessity of the beast.  He also has the BOX close their eyes and see if they can picture which - and where -  Americans are not helping out, but yet still complain about everything.  He assumes everybody is correct.

DJ is apparently "not" a Deftones fan despite every indication to the contrary.  He's also not a fan of New Jersey being ranked the #1 state by "wallethub" - or anybody, for that matter - but he does have some fond recollections of covering BBS's "Garden State Prison".  He also has some choice words about today's Supreme Court decision.

DJ got to see himself on video this week ...and it ain't good.  He stops short of blaming the chat for it, but does think that someone should have let him know just how disgusting he's been getting lately.  That, however, doesn't stop him from telling us his most (recent) disgusting 'eating while driving' story.  We won't ruin it for you here, but it involves the phrases "smokehouse almonds", "cake hand" and "mouth bath".  DJ also has a lot to say about his beloved HERricanes!

DJ points out that we have 8 billion people on the planet; not all of them are "keepers", but first... the BOX is getting a 2nd camera angle!  Despite the fact that no one asked for, or even wanted, a 2-camera shoot for The Top Twenty, our host decides to embrace technology in an effort to look less like a bag of sh*t.  (It didn't work.) Once he gets back on track, DJ has a lot to say about the 4 billion people that make up the bottom half of "humanity" including addressing the fact that not only do we not need these people, we don't actually "want" these people, and maybe - just maybe - we should stop bringing them along with us.  DJ also has a lot to say about the sh*t-town of Lynbrook; how the people there suck and why it's no surprise that the children they are inflicting upon the rest of us also suck.  DJ also insists he did a lot better by the chat last week no matter what #teamUpitty has to say about it.

DJ also talks about other school rivalries and finds out via the chat that the Farmingdale football team is called the "Dalers" - which he thinks is just the absolute worst thing ever - until the slang definition is posted defining "Daler" as "someone who owns Massapequa" and all is right with the world.  He also squeezes in a breakdown of "Carry On Our Wayward Son" much to the undelight of the chat.

This week on the BOX...

DJ has had just about enough out of Susan. And Bryce, Stephanie, Brad... and everyone else in offices all around the country that need to justify their existence by f**king with people that do actual work.  He's opposed to the notion that somehow people with ZERO experience and ZERO skin in the game can evaluate the quality of work that really good workers are already doing. And that's not to take away from people that actually make things better.  There's nothing wrong with efficiency or the user experience changing as situations dictate, but if you feel the need to yarf up some sh*t idea that throws a coworker under the bus just so you can say you "participated", don't be expecting a trophy from the BOX anytime soon.  Also, unsurprisingly, DJ is having an issue with hypocrites and the new CDC guidance.  But what else is new?

DJ talks to Noodle about post-it notes, and has to explain to the percussionist why using them at the studio won't help him remember things once he leaves there.  Our host talks about covers and how well they seem to be doing in music circles these days.  He posits - along with #teamUppity - that it might be a function of exposing new generations to older music - especially if it's done in a modern way, but that doesn't answer why covers of newer music is doing just as well.  There is more research to be done on this! DJ also talks more about the repercussions of being in facebook jail, and how low his interaction quantity is these days as a result.

This week on the BOX...

DJ makes history today... and thanks everyone that refused to give up on him.  It's the 400th episode of the BOX and DJ celebrates by moving his microphone to the left.  (What a party!) He blames the move completely on vanity and "optics" and then proceeds to gross everyone out with lip-smacking and other sounds he's now capable of making.  In honor of the 400th episode, our host also recounts the origin story of the BOX and pieces together a significant thread across his many careers - that most of his achievements tend to be because someone refused to take no for an answer, and pushed him to do something great.  And he couldn't be more thankful for that.

DJ also finds some classic BOX clips, including a recording of episode #4.  He plays a few bits of it and is horrified by how bad it truly is and "future DJ" definitely has a lot of critiques for "past DJ" - every single one of which is completely justified.  (There really was nowhere to go but "better".)

This week on the BOX...

DJ's been to facebook jail... and couldn't care less. Not only does our host look absolutely awful this week, apparently he's been to facebook jail recently.  After a solid year of fighting - fairly aggressively - with every stupid corner troll on the social media platform, DJ ends up in time-out for referring to "fat, worthless Americans".  And despite losing his challenge to the P.C. police over at f**kbook, DJ still insists he's done nothing wrong, and in fact, is actually correct in his representation of the people he sees "every single day".  He goes on to say how those very same people are absolutely ruining the world around him just by being complete pieces of sh*t in their existence, and he offers up a solution or two to a few recurring problems.  He also hates people that praise "diet plans" for only pointing out that maybe you should stop with the soda and boxes of donuts for breakfast. But on the upside, he's figured out how his microphone works!

#teamUppity drops a ton of science on our host via the chat including a useful onion tip, and a way to (eventually) save gas flying from Alaska to Hawaii.  DJ also talks about why it's generally bad for original bands to always stay in their lane.  Although he allows for a few exceptions, he points out that there is no real growth available if you're constantly going to parrot yourself after established and current bands.  He says that finding your own niche in those areas is the very least you need to do to ever stand out, let alone ever do anything great.

DJ wants better opinions - and the microphone to work!  Our host is plagued by technical difficulties early in the show, despite having a shiny new microphone (that he has no idea where it came from) and takes us on a fantastical voyage of failure while trying to troubleshoot - live on the air.  Eventually our hero overcomes the evil "Paramètres du Microphone", and after proclaiming victory over all he surveys, moves on to today's topic: how frustrating it is when people threaten to withhold opinions because their opinions aren't always, or ever, the best ones in the room.  DJ explains that the fault hardly ever lies with the people making the decisions, but rather the caliber of the options being tossed in the ring.  And yeah, the best options are almost always the ones he's going to go with, because they are - wait for it - the best options.

The BOX drops a new segment devoted to tri-state area breakfast meats, and before you can judge a segment by its title, DJ has already wikipedia'd (verb, past tense) and read aloud the official web definitions of both "pork roll" and "scrapple".  He still believes that the classic bacon, egg & cheese is the way to go.  And he probably isn't wrong.

DJ is now officially a member of #teamUppity – and he has the t-shirt to prove it! And while he’s super appreciative of everyone that makes this kind of stuff happen, he takes some time to acknowledge that he’s wayyy more of a bystander with regards to the development of his various careers than he is an active participant. Making him even more grateful for something as cool as this when it happens to him, as opposed to because of him. He also has some kind words for Josh from Silverstein and the interview Jim and Mikey just did with him on this week’s BIMP. DJ pulls clips of some really solid band advice that Josh dropped and talks about how he’s going to try and embrace it more going forward with REVEL 9. Also, it’s almost the 400th BOX and no one can believe it less than DJ.

"Keep You Near" (REVEL 9) has passed 25,000 streams on Spotify, and DJ pauses to acknowledge that for sure, but is quick to point out that the entire record (Do Know Harm) is just shy of 100K streams.  And he is just hella overwhelmed by that. DJ also might have a slight microphone obsession.
