This week on the BOX...
It's the 2020 BOXgiving Day Special!
With the help of "numbers", "formulas" and some "Excelling", DJ counts down the 25 Most Played Bands of the BOX --Ever! That's right, years and years of BOXes will determine WHICH bands have been played some of the times, most of the times or ALL OF THE TIMES! Where will your favorite band be? No one knows - not even DJ.
This ain't your mom's lunchbox.
Sadly, despite paying full royalties on the BOX, the RIAA "antipiracy" department has rules against using copyrighted material without permission on the podcast replay, so you won't hear anything except direct submissions here, but you can still catch all the music from the show when the BOX runs live, Thursdays at noon on 99WNRR.com

This week on the BOX...
DJ does a little BOXflecting about the show and rabbit-holes his way into some classic BOX history including special guests, rivalries with other shows and that time that KAZ went viral.
He also spends way too long explaining how "Just a reminder..." really set Noodle off his week, and still takes the time to explain how the phrase should actually be used to the benefit of probably no one. He also gets into more New York COVID rules but instead expresses a fairly low opinion of Iowa's Governor.
The HERricanes are #1 - actually, DJ & Jimmy play "Mystery Flask", just how much social media sucks for promotion and MORE!

DJ is down with American ingenuity, especially the science kind. He talks about how promoting science is the single best way to move the world forward and the best way to actually make the world better. He also seems to have a fairly large problem with the way we procure nails in this county.
DJ also gives us the first ever "MIKEtrospective". His buddy Mikey is celebrating his birthday today, and DJ takes a look back at his musical career which seems like it spans more decades than he's actually been alive.
Going to the moon, why Cardi B is a thing, the Box's RISE virus and MORE!

This week on the BOX...
DJ doesn't do politics - today. Instead he discusses the new hidden meaning behind "how are you doing?" and realizes that it's way closer to "hey man, how are you handling any of what's going on here?". He thinks it's probably a good way to scout information from anyone that may have figured out the secrets to surviving 2020, but it's also hella indicative of just how many struggles there are out there right now.
DJ is down for Jersey weed!!! He congratulates the Garden State on their latest ballot measure win and reflects on his own experience "taking the pot" as a teenager and wonders how exactly Jersey plans on topping WaWa AND weed - good luck with that!
The COVID 50, DJ's blue hair dye experience, what won't sound good acoustic and MORE!

This week on the BOX...
DJ wants everyone to vote - regardless of what side. Just vote. He talks about the importance of the conversation and the participation that needs to be had. He reflects on the electricity of past elections, but admits he's never felt anything quite like this before. And not in a good way.
DJ argues with Noodle over the "most important" member of Pantera. Surprisingly, the REVEL 9 drummer takes team: Dimebag, while DJ argues for Vinny Paul. And since it's DJ's show, that's the only side we get to hear. But at least he uses some music to prove his point.
StrangerhoodTV, the future of Hard Rock, coversong "dibsing" and MORE!

DJ continues to try and live in gratitude. But man... Finding space to be grateful at work, in the band, while being creative and in every personal relationship takes quite a minute. And it's taking a whole lot out of him. He does take some time to address why R9 fans are so great though. The fact that they seem to "get" the band and are fiercely loyal is not lost on DJ. And even if they're all weird in their own way, he says they're still "ours", and he wouldn't have it any other way.
DJ also talks a bit about schools sending K-5 students back to full time in-school instruction. He points out how none of it is for educational reasons, and just wishes people would start owning that instead of hiding behind some other PC talking point. He also spends more than enough time "reviewing" Giovanna's station ID.
DJ's not-so-good-look in the liquor store parking lot, realllly digging on The Mayday Parade, Charlotte's "NERD KNOWLEDGE OF EGYPT!!!" and MORE!

This week on the BOX...
DJ wants to know why all the local cover and tribute bands are so #SOS quiet lately. Actually that's not true - he totally know why, but now he wants YOU to know. And he has absolutely no issue shining a light on just how selfish and self-centered those people can be, and "are". Just one more victory for the #mefirst movement and the sh*t people in it.
DJ also takes a minute to express some gratitude for the the band he's in. He goes into some of the reasons that it's great to be in one, the hard parts about being "in charge" and how nice it is to finally be having a good time back at rehearsal after its incredibly long absence.
Why pizza should be first, Chris, Curt & Carl Bell, work ethic AF and MORE!

This week on the BOX...
DJ is struggling to keep it together ...again. After a very rocky start, he spends the rest of the show reeling from the death of Eddie Van Halen. He explains, or tries to, why it's less about the loss of the "man" and more about the "moments" that his existence are tied to. Which only seems to make things worse for a little while before finally rounding the corner by the end of the show.
DJ talks about why and how music is important and how it gets tied to the grander landmarks in our life. And he offers up the possibility that without that specific soundtrack, the tapestry probably wouldn't have been worth weaving in the first place.
DJ's favorite Chevelle story, "where were you when...", chasing dragons and MORE!

This week on the BOX...
DJ explores what it truly means to be a team. He talks about what he thinks it means and how he's applied it in his life with friends, bands and his own tribe. He's got plenty of upsides for it, and more than a few downsides. He wonders at what point you should leave your team, and he cautions about recognizing when your team is no longer "yours".
DJ also has "news from the bandchat". He reads the latest "conversation" from his band mates in their group chat. Apparently Noodle is right on top of things "just like Kaz's Mom" but no one handles the balls quite as good "as Tony's Dad". Yep, Super-productive day over at R9 inc.
7 years of the BOX, Spotify stickers, why DJ is a proud parent this week and MORE!

This week on the BOX...
DJ has started doing interviews again. The 'talk master general' has begun formal PR for "Do Know Harm" and managed to turn a 30 minute interview with Total Order Magazine into a 3 hour conversation. He talks about his process of saying everything there is to say about a record at the start of a press campaign, all the while fine-tuning and simplifying that message until it's much more manageable by the time people are done wanting to hear about it.
DJ also has a big issue being lumped in with "we" especially if the ones saying the "we" stuff don't represent the "me" (or rather, "him") at all. He stops the show to read a post or two from one of the local "leaders" of the #saveourstages movement and is frankly disgusted by what she has to say and how she says it. He also points out that he will never align with that movement as long as they let people like that speak for him.
"Listening Experiences" on facebook, apples and idiots, why saying "never" regarding politics is just "never" smart and MORE!
