  • The Discipline of Prayer

We often expect God to work in real-time like our smartphones, don’t we?  While He can (and sometimes does) grant answers immediately, He often doesn’t. Rather than blame Him, we can take a step back to realize it took us longer than “immediate” to get into our current mess, and will take longer than a spiritual hot second to bring it into order. Herein lies the “discipline” of prayer. Mama Bear, let’s get wise about how we approach the throne so we can actually know we come in confidence, rather than coming in desperation and confusion.

Kevin Sorbo is an actor, director, producer, and author. Sorbo received international stardom when he booked the lead role in “Hercules, the Legendary Journeys” (1993-1999) the most-watched TV show in the world, airing in 176 countries. He went on to act, produce, and direct in several other productions. His upcoming movie is The Reliant.
In real life, Kevin leads “A World Fit for Kids”, a successful mentoring model that trains inner-city teens to use school, fitness, sports and positive role models for themselves. World Fit is the number on after school program in the state of California.
Sorbo resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Sam and three children.
    The Reliant Movie Synopsis
When crisis strikes and their world crumbles, is God reliable to meet their needs or must their faith remain blind to facts?
After an innocent trip to the store ends in rioting and chaos, father of five, Rick (Kevin Sorbo) rushes home desperate to gather his family and find safety. His plans are dashed when the very same armed men suddenly appear, led by the ruthless Jack (Brian Bosworth). Caught in the deadly crossfire, the children are forced to seek shelter in the surrounding woods.
Alone and vulnerable, the children’s faith and family bonds are pushed to the limit, especially those of the eldest daughter, Sophie (Mollee Gray), who questions the morality of gun ownership but soon learns that in God all things are good, including her family’s Second Amendment right to defend themselves. It is now up to the children to reclaim their home, find their parents and put an end to Jack’s rampage.
At the heart of THE RELIANT is a love story. It’s an anthem of hope in the hardest of times, of forgiveness, and of redemption. Also featuring the celebrated Benham Brothers.

  • Transgenderism: How Do We Respond? | 834
A listener writes, “Heidi, I have a very close friend who is struggling with her now-18-year-old daughter who has decided to transition to a boy. This has been a four-year process that she has prayed about and fought against as much as she felt she could without terminating her relationship with her child. How do I help?” As Christians, our answers must contain three things: love, truth and compassion. I’ll be talking about this and other questions today at Mailbox Monday. Join me!

Hey everybody. This is Heidi St. John. Welcome to my little corner of the internet. Today is Monday, October 7th. This is episode number 828. It is also one of my favorite days of the podcast, MailBox Monday. You guys have been amazing and you’ve sent me so many questions. I’m going to try to actually get to six of them today.
Stick around. I think you’re going to be encouraged.

All right, so you guys, it’s the 7th of October and that means that coming up this weekend, my women’s conference Faith That Speaks is going to be in my neck of the woods right here in Vancouver. So, that’s this Saturday and this is a great time, you guys, to bring your women’s ministry team, bring your daughter, bring your sister, bring your mom, bring your mother-in-law and come on out. We’re going to spend a day, we’ll start at about nine o’clock and we’ll be done before five, we’re going to have lunch together. You guys are going to get to meet some of my team. They’re flying in from all over the country for this, so we’re pretty excited about that.

Also, you’re going to get a chance to meet some of the MomStrong international leaders that are coming in from different parts of the country. So, I only do this event once every year here in the Pacific Northwest and I’m very excited this year, in particular, to just kick off a new theme, Faith That Speaks to be talking to you guys about how to get off the bench and onto the battlefield.

So that’s coming up this Saturday, the 12th of October. You can still register for tickets.
