  • Meekness Isn’t Weakness | MomStrong International Week 4 of 4

Meekness is a word we see tied to gentleness in the scriptures, and commonly misunderstood. Even as you read it, meekness brings to mind pictures of a tiny mouse shivering in the corner. In the ’90s (and still today!) it was big for women in assertiveness classes to decide that in order to not be a doormat, standing up for oneself was the way to go. In reality, meekness is restrained strength—and God offers it to you!

Alright, so thanks for tuning into the podcast, everybody. We’ve got a great show lined up for you today. I want to remind you of a couple of things before I get started. First of all, I am actually in Phoenix this weekend for the AFHE conference. If you’re anywhere near Phoenix, which I don’t actually know why you would be at this time of year, but if you are— come down that convention center, cool off, and get fired up to get off the bench and onto the battlefield. I’ll be talking about the culture. I’m keynoting that event. So I’ll be speaking twice as the keynote.

Hey you guys, this is Heidi St John. Welcome to the podcast. Today is Monday, July 8th—this is episode number 789. We are moving right into the month of July and there are a lot of questions on your minds today, and I know this because my mailbox is full. So we’re going to tackle some kind of difficult and tender topics today and I think you guys are going to be encouraged—because God’s Word is not that hard to understand. What we’re seeing happen in the culture right now is a deliberate attempt to confuse people and muddy the waters of what God says is right and wrong. So we’re going to tackle some hard things today.
Stick around, I think you’re going to be encouraged.
All right you guys. So welcome to the podcast. I want to just encourage you guys for the hundredth, millionth time, because I’m just so, so excited about what I’m hearing from you. Even here at the podcast, when you email me and you have questions, I can tell that you are thinking critically about the Word of God and trying to apply it to your life. And so when we stop and think about the many, many confusing messages that are coming out of so-called churches, so called Evangelicalism, so called Progressive Christianity, to which I will tackle in a minute—I want to just encourage you today back to the authority of the Word of God. God’s Word does not change. The Bible teaches us that the grass will wither and the flowers will fade, but the Word of God will stand forever. And that’s where we want to turn. We always want to turn to the Word of God. You guys, you have the Holy Spirit.
And speaking of having the Holy Spirit, our Scripture Writing challenge for today, if you’re not joining me yet, hop on over there at MomStrongInternational.com. We are at the beginning of the month of July and everyday I have a Scripture for you to write out.

  • Freedom From Anxiety | Mailbox Monday

Although Jesus said He came to give us abundant life, sometimes we can find ourselves a prisoner of past pain.  When we allow ourselves to become self-focused, we can lose sight of the Healer, and instead, fall into feelings of shame. Don’t forget whose you are, precious one! Jesus bore our shame on the cross; we don’t need to bear it for one moment longer.
