A listener asked whether it is a red flag to stay in touch with an ex. My partner talks to one of his every few months. I have never once had an issue with it.
Then I told him about a text I got from a man from my past, and he said, immediately, do not respond.
I sat with that for a beat and then started pulling the thread, because the two things did not match and we both knew it.
What comes next is the most honest thirty minutes we have recorded. He tells me what he believes is actually happening, almost every single time, when a man reaches out to a woman he used to be with. The percentage he gives is not a hedge.
Then, mid sentence, he catches his own double standard and works out what he is going to do about it while the cameras are running. I did not expect where he landed.
In this episode:
- Cam's read on what men are really doing when they text an ex about something conveniently unrelated, and what it says about why she left
- The wound he traces underneath his own contact with her, which turns out to have almost nothing to do with wanting her back
- The one question I asked him near the end that opened something up, and his answer, which came out slowly
He also delivers a message straight to camera for the men still sliding into my messages. It is the funniest and most savage thing he has ever said on this show.
