“Figure it Out”
When I hire, I don't need the world's greatest accountant, I need an average accountant… anyone who can do the job… that's all I'm looking for from a competency standpoint. So if you come in and you've been an accountant for 10 years, you can do the job. The question is, can you get it done and figure it out? That makes you the person that can fit our team versus not. In startups that's incredibly important and it's not as important in big companies. there's nothing wrong going to Bank of America it is a fine career choice… but in your as you sit in your desk, there is someone over your shoulder, who was in that just 18 months ago, so you can turn around and say “what do I do now?” and they'll have an answer... at a startup, there is no one there. If you have to come to me and say “what do I do now?” I have to stop what I'm doing, pull my eyes off the horizon as the CEO, and figure out what you need to do… and I consider that your job.

“Gratitude”
I feel that if gratitude was more prevalent in our society we would shave off 80% of the problems that we have, just by exercising gratitude.
“Golden Years”
They always talk about your golden years as after your kids are at the house… I think that golden years are the years that you're with your kids that your kids are growing up. So I'd actually rather work harder on my career after they're out of the house than spend my entire life in the pursuit of worldly greatness or money

“Explore”
I think one of the most important things that you ever have, not just early in your career, but during your career is space and time to explore… and the margin to not have some crushing pressure, where you always have to deliver, deliver, deliver and pay the piper. That is really important.

“Imposter Syndrome”
We all have something about ourselves that is always with us but that we don't like to look at. Maybe something that drives us, something that we feel embarrassed by... for a lot of people it's a sense of imposter syndrome. I can tell you the number of people in my life who are people you've heard of probably, who are CEOs who are otherwise thought leaders, influencers, etc. I can tell you that, by and large, many of them, most of them even have the sense of imposter syndrome. My advice to anyone who cares, is make friends with that, whatever it is, because it's going to be with you and it's in there's nothing you're going to do to get rid of it. It's your passenger and it's probably the fuel in your tank and and when everything is said and done, chances are, wherever you succeed in your life It's probably because of that thing...it's probably your strongest investment.

“Impact”
There's a scene in “One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest”, where Jack Nicholson is denied the ability to watch the World Series in the mental hospital that he is in. So he stands in front of the TV and starts doing a fake play by play of the World Series to just pretend like he's watching and it gets all the other guys excited and, and all these patients are standing around the television and cheering and going crazy. That scene changed my life! I was like “whatever that is... I want to do that.” I want to arouse in audiences the kind of emotion that that scene did for me. It was just such a big moment cinematically but also just for me personally… that impact! I wanted to do that for others. That's when I started to want to become a filmmaker.

“Truth”
If you believe that there is a truth, and it can be had. And you can find it. You can get it. You can search for it, you can dig, whatever it is that you can find it. I think truth will carry you through. Think of the way the hurricane of life comes, if you can get a hold of the steel of truth and hold on to it. It will keep you up and through. And truth will win.

“Inventory”
Every challenging experience that we have, we need to use it. We need to add it to our repository to be able to document “Okay. I did this!” I got through that and now I can do the next thing and then the next thing… it's so important to be conscientious of how we can convert our pain points and our game points into our assets, it's essential.
