1. Dead in Sin, Yet Made Alive by Mercy
“And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;”
— Ephesians 2:1
We were spiritually lifeless, unable to respond to God, lost in sin—yet mercy found us.
2. Enslaved by Darkness
“Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air…”
— Ephesians 2:2
Our past was shaped by disobedience and the influence of evil, but God’s mercy interrupted our path.
3. By Nature, Deserving Wrath
“Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past… and were by nature the children of wrath…”
— Ephesians 2:3
Left to ourselves, we were subject to judgment. Mercy wasn’t earned—it was given.
4. "But God"—Rich in Mercy
“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us…”
— Ephesians 2:4
This is the turning point: God steps in not with condemnation, but with rich mercy driven by great love.
5. Mercy at the Throne of Grace
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
— Hebrews 4:16
God not only showed up in mercy, He also made it accessible. We now have the boldness to approach and receive it in every season of need.
