The Hot Mic @ Arch DevOps episodes

  • Jerry Abiog - Data and the Human Condition

What an awesome episode with Jerry Abiog, Founder of Standard Insights. We talk about how even with the data right in front of us, we can still choose to favor emotion over empirical evidence. It leads to us talking about our respective lessons learned with how we failed and could've made some different decisions.

Especially in the climate of when this episode was recorded, there's all kinds of data sitting right in front of us that we can choose to act on, or choose to ignore. Maybe to our own peril.

Learn from our mistakes, fam. If the data's telling you something, don't ignore it.

  • Lorica and Amelia Fritzius - Fritz in the Hot Seat

Got an interesting episode for you all today. As you might know, my wife Charlotte and homeschool, and were doing it before coronavirus made it cool lol. The most recent assignment our oldest two girls, Lorica and Amelia had, was to come up with a set of interview questions for someone.

Well I saw it and said, "Hey you girls want to turn this into a podcast?" and they said, "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" because they were excited.

Of course I'm biased but there were great questions about what I do, what Arch DevOps does, how the whole thing got started, who we help and why I do what I do.

Check out archdevops.com for info about what this business does.

    And enjoy the listen.

  • Mark Morris - The Ghost(writer) in the Machine

"I don't believe in Writer's Block." Dang son, bringing the heat!! But you know what... he's right. Talking with Mark Morris, founder of Mark Morris Creative, we got the chance to dispel some myths about what really stops people from writing that book they've been meaning to write. Often times it's just getting your fingers on the keyboard and plunking things out. Yes it takes diligence and time but eventually, you'll realize, lol, it's done!

Mark brings experience from a career in theater, and shares how he's applied that to his day to day as an independent ghostwriter. He's a really cool guy, and I think you'll enjoy learning in this easy-going talk.

  • Henry Schneider - On Business Performance

Henry and I have known each other for awhile, and both of us come from a software quality background. Overall, businesses can have a metric for quality that goes well outside of testing. What are those metrics? How do you know if your business is actually performing well? Fortunately, Henry's built a business of just that question.

Expect to come away with some ideas for improving your business, and a couple chuckles lol.

Find out more about Henry's by finding his LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/henryschneider/ and his blog at http://welcome.ppqc.net

Hellbent on reaching a six figure salary, Stuart came to a point where he asked, "what next?" When he had an opportunity to become a Senior Vice President, he had to take a hard look at his career. Was this what he actually wanted?

Have you run into this wall too?

Find out more in this podcast about the struggles he and his wife tackled together. If you're a budding entrepreneur or you're married to one, this episode is for you!

  • David Somerfleck - Is Passion Enough for Entrepreneurship?

Got the chance to talk with the most chill dude in this podcast today. David Somerfleck, founder of dms.blue shares how passion may not be enough to build a business. Jumping into a space with no previous experience could be a huge detriment to you. Knowing specifically want you want out of it is key.

This is a variety podcast where we just unplugged for about 40 minutes, but we absolutely enjoyed our time together. This guy knows a lot about business, marketing and being goal oriented. Plus he really really likes the color blue.

  • Serena Sabala - Transformation from the Top Down

When I first met Serena I was excited to learn how her company, Whole Shift Wellness tackles the looming problems of founders burning the candle at both ends and not taking care of themselves. It's an epidemic problem with no easy fix. After today's episode I learned: her mission is a lot bigger than that.

Leaders who take that leap toward transforming themselves will transform their companies as a side effect. The example that they set will set the precedent for everybody working under them.

That's the mission of Whole Shift Wellness.

If you're a leader struggling with weight gain, mental discipline, emotional distress or overwork, you might want to have a chat with Serena and see how she can help.

Emma is a business owner. And she has a full time job. And she's also a mom. "How the heck," you might ask, "is that possible?" Well it has a lot to do with time management, discipline, and laser-like efficiency on where your energy is spent. Fortunately for her, her business is all about building processes for her clients and helping them be efficient too, so it's not a far stretch.

If you're a single mom wondering if starting a business is possible for you, you should give this a listen. Or if you're not but still interested in taking your first steps down the entrepreneurial path: same. Expect to get some cool insights.

On this episode of The Hot Mic @ Arch DevOps I talk with Travis Wright, Director of Growth for 3Gimbals about the importance of not letting failure define you. Travis has a great story about how he goofed up in front of a 4-star general, and what he did about it. Spoiler alert: it didn't ruin him. And mistakes don't have to ruin you either.

  • Molly Rauzi - Leadership, Culture and Using Tech to Drive Employee Engagement

Today's episode with Molly Rauzi, Managing Director and CIO of Gagen MacDonald, shared with me some awesome info she's learned in her stellar career that made me wish I'd met her FIVE YEARS AGO. Holy moly the things I could've applied. Well we got here as fast as we could and I'm glad to get to know her.

In this episode we talked a lot about the psychology behind what it means to actually lead (not manage or boss around) a team, what happens if you have a Hero(tm) on the team, and ways to redirect the energy and ego into constructive goals that drive a company forward.

I'm proud of her that's she's doing the stuff that I've already been doing for years (kidding!)

Molly is great and we think you'll enjoy this episode. No foolin'.
