We’re picking back up with Part 2 of the Grant and Gracie Solomon cases. Today, we’ll be getting more details in the case of Grant’s death as well as recent updates about Gracie’s experiences with her father.

When Grant went to pitching practice with his dad that morning, on June 20th, Grant had not been alone with Aaron in about 2 years. In fact, Angie recalls that when Grant was leaving that morning, he said to her “Mom I don’t want to die in Gallatin today.”

On the evening of June 22nd, 1983, Frederica Orlandi got a call from her younger sister, Emanuela, that she would be back to their home, in Vatican City, later that evening. As the hours went by, Emanuela still had not returned home and her family became increasingly concerned. But the Vatican City gates would be closing at midnight. More than 40 years later, Emanuela Orlandi remains the Vatican’s only missing citizen.

Tuesday, May 6th, neighbors of the Dermonds decided to check up on them. When they arrived at the home, they noticed that the newspapers from both Monday and Tuesday were still in the driveway, and mail was piling up inside the mailbox. The door was unlocked, so they went ahead and stepped inside. They made their way through the home, noting that nothing was missing or out of place, except the homeowners. When they stepped into the garage, they found Russell Dermond’s body, lying in a small pool of blood. What they couldn’t find was Russell’s wife, Shirley, or Russell’s head.

On the evening of July 24th, 1984, Allen Lafferty came home from work to his family apartment in American Fork, Utah. It was Pioneer Day, a holiday celebrated by Mormon families in Utah to honor the arrival of the Latter-day Saint pioneers in Salt Lake City. As Allen entered the kitchen, he found his wife, Brenda, lying on the floor with her throat slashed and a vacuum cord wrapped around her neck. He ran to her and prayed over her. Then, he remembered that his 15-month-old daughter, Erica, was also supposed to be in the home. He ran to her bedroom where he found her, laying in her crib, the sheets soaked with blood, and her throat also slashed. He called the police right away. This is the kind of thing a loving father and husband never could have seen coming… Or could he?
