Your Voice
There is a type of voice called the “writer’s voice,” which envelopes the “writing style.” Most people read out loud in their minds. This creates a conversational dialogue between the reader and the writer. We do the same thing when we write our thoughts down. We simply have a conversation in the plane of our minds. Our words occupy space in this plane and they have a tone and style where we show our attitude, character, and closeness to the reader. This is called “writer’s voice.”
With the tone we choose to convey, we could almost reflect our facial expressions and the harmony of a speech. Your voice is part of the blog’s identity.
On the blogs, people expect more of a personal voice which reflects warmth and sincerity. This is part of rapport formation. Be friendly, talk like the way you talk to a friend, and don't be shy to embed experiences in it. A humble voice will combine the tone of authority with warmth and reflect personality. Still, it is your voice, you chose.
I prepared some questions that will help you to clarify your voice. We all have a different version of ourselves. We feel, talk, and behave differently when we are with our friends or with family members or tired or excited. This is where we have to change to project our personality.
Choosing the right writing style helps to find your voice. They are like siblings. There are good books out there on writing styles.
You can write from the angle of an investigative journalist or an emotionless authority with great verbal distance. Talking to a close friend type of writing would work wonders in opinion-related blogs as if you are having one to one conversation. What about being an educator.
This is knowing how you would like to come across as well as your feeling comfortable while writing. Don't worry; you can improve it in time. It is an evolution. Thinking from your audience's point will make it easier to decide how you’d like to be seen. You are what your reader expects you to be.
