The problem with the procrastination is that people are not aware that the root cause of their procrastination is emotional and psychological traumas. And as a neuroscientist, I have to tell you, those traumas, they actually impair certain parts of the brain in structure and function. So your brain has been impaired in structure and function because when there was an event, an experience back in the day, maybe in your childhood, there was a strong emotion associated with that experience. And that has caused damage in the structure and function of your brain. And especially if you were young and something happened, there is this part of the brain called amygdala which actually is responsible for emotional regulation, for fear responses. And it becomes highly hyperactive, highly vigilant. And now it's thinking and feeling that is always some danger. You're gonna get eaten by a lion. That is the state you are in. You are in a perpetual state of survival, perpetual state of fight or flight, perpetual state of fear. And now you are trying to go about your life and because of that past experience, you actually are reliving that trauma in the present moment. Now, in the body of an adult, you are age 30, age 40, age 50, 60, and you have been reliving, marinating and ruminating in those juices of that trauma in the present moment. Because the brain and the body does not know the difference between something imagined or something real. And as you are mentally rehearsing that past experience, you are reliving it in the present moment. And this is causing you to feel incapacitated, causing you to feel stressed and you don't feel like you want to follow through. And this is why you procrastinate. This is why you look for escapism. This is why you go and binge watch Netflix for eight hours. This is why you go and doom and gloom scroll on social media, or you grab a bottle of wine, or you go for alcohol or drugs or something, sex, gambling, whatever is to escape those feelings. But unless you do the deep healing of these emotional and psychological traumas in a child wounds, you will always struggle to achieve your objectives and you will actually always feel like you are shortchanged.
