The Idea of Manhood episodes

  • The Idea of Manhood Ep 28 - Black Girls Rock

This is an ultralight beam. This is a God's dream!

The episode jumps right in to discuss some of the craziness that's happening in popular culture, politics, and the news right now. From the random killings in and around the DC area...something has to change. We have to teach boys how to fail...and how to love.

This was a special episode for me. As a father, I've mostly talked about my son, and importance of a dad in a boy's life. Well, this episode I give some time to talk about my daughter...and she rocks!

Thanks so much for tuning in!

  • The Idea of Manhood Ep 27 - The Privilege Episode

Back at it again with the fresh episode.

Rest in Peace to Jeffery Allen Matthews.

In episode 27, I start off by paying tribute to a young man named Jeffery Allen Matthews. Jeffery passed away at the age of 22, and was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated at my alma mater, James Madison University. You may have heard about the story about Trump supporters at the college that painted over a memorial rock hours after his brothers and friends painted it in his memory. I discuss how privilege played a part in the situation.

The main segment in this episode is complicated. It's challenging to even write about. I discuss the importance of talking to young boys about how they treat and interact with girls. I'll just leave it there. Tune in to get the full story.

Tune in for episode 27, and I'll see you next week!

  • The Idea of Manhood Ep 26 - The More Sex Episode

    Sex, sex, and more sex...

Dang, 48 minutes? Welp...there's a lot to talk about!

We've talked about sex before. Today, we dig a little deeper #pause.

Specifically, we'll talk about sex in long-term relationships. It's easy to be young, wild, and free, and have sex with random people. The excitement is automatic. But how do you keep the fire going within a marriage or relationship.

Men. Ladies. Tune in. It gets real.

  • The Idea of Manhood Ep 24 - The FML and My Barber Episode

I want to punch my barber in the face...because my hairline is at a 20 degree angle. That's all.

This episode is titled after a track on Kanye West's most recent groundbreaking album, The Life of Pablo, #TLOP.

There is a track entitled "FML." We all know what FML stands for, right? Some may say, F*ck My Life. On this track, it may stand for "For My Lady." Either way, the lyrics are profound, especially in relation to the lives of men. Don't think too much of the messenger, but read deeper in the words of the first verse to  F....M....L.

I been waiting for a minute
    For my lady
So I can't jeopardize that for one of these hoes
    I been living without limits
    As far as my business
I'm the only one that's in control
I been feeling all I've given
    For my children
I will die for those I love
    God, I'm willing
    To make this my mission
    Give up the women
Before I lose half of what I own
    I been thinking
    About my vision
    Pour out my feelings
Revealing the layers to my soul
    My soul
    The layers to my soul
Revealing the layers to my soul

  • The Idea of Manhood Ep 23 - The Man, F These Kids Episode

Thanks for tuning in to episode 23! The Jordan Episode.

This episode is the parents and/or future parents.

In the "I'm Tired" section, I discuss the age old discussion about public vs. private school. Y'all know where I stand on this issue.

Big week in hip hop! New Kendrick! His throwaways are better than most feature projects! Also new 2chainz and Lil Wayne.

The main segment is all about....lets just say this... If you are a couple raising kids, focus on the relationship first!

    See you next week.

  • The Idea of Manhood Ep 21 - The Disagreeing Without Being Disagreeable Episode

Back at you for episode 21! (I told you I'll be back in a week!!!)

In this episode, I talk about my recent interactions on Facebook which are leading me to give up the platform (at least my personal page) for a while.

The episode turns to talking about how to disagree without being disagreeable.

I talk a bit about Kanye West and what his public persona means for manhood and my interactions talking about him with others. Interesting stuff.

    Thanks for tuning in!

  • The Idea of Manhood Ep 20 - Excuses and Post-Op

Excuses are tools of the incompetent, used to build monuments of nothingness, and those that use them are seldom good for anything else.

I learned that stanza with my fraternity brothers (shout out to the Xi Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc) in the Spring of 1995, and I refer to this poem at least once/week. There are so many gems in here that are lifelong lessons.

The last episode, I shared with you my plans for an upcoming vasectomy. Welp. It took place...and I'm still standing...I'm still here #antwonfishervoice!

I'll go a little deeper into the decision making process, the reason why men don't talk about this kind of stuff, and the post-op process.

  • The Idea of Manhood Episode 19 - The Pre-Op Episode

In Episode 19, Five Mikes catches up with the listeners and discusses his upcoming surgery. Yup...It's a vasectomy and it's about to go down!

Listen to find out the truth about the procedure and the though process of putting your balls on the line. #allpunsintended

Please send this to your men friends that need or may want to know and are too afraid to ask!
