  • Episode 18: Christy Turlington Burns, Every Mother Counts

Christy Turlington Burns, founder of “Every Mother Counts” joined host Lindsey Hein on her podcast  “I’ll Have Another with Lindsey Hein” and we couldn’t think of a better cross over episode for The Illuminate Podcast!

I was so honored to sit down with her at the Every Mother Counts office in NYC to hear all about the work being done to support women and provide the opportunity for safe maternal healthcare around the World.

“Every Mother Counts envisions a World where all women have the opportunity to enter motherhood and not only survive, but thrive. Christy is the founder of the organization which she began after having her own childbirth related complications. Christy directed and produced the documentary feature film, No Woman, No Cry to highlight the challenges women face throughout pregnancy and childbirth around the world.

million in programs in Africa, Latin America, South Asia and the United States focused
on making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere.

    Creating a Life Practice.

Influential People, and Glamour Magazine’s 2013 Woman of the Year. In March 2016,

    For-Profit Companies.

  • Episode 17: Lindy Johnson with America’s Kids Belong

Episode 17: Lindy Johnson with America’s Kids Belong

This week we are talking to Lindy Johnson. She is a licensed therapist and trauma care trainer for America’s Kids Belong.

AKB mobilizes government, faith-based, business and creative leaders around the goal of permanency and belonging for every child. Combining grassroots and “grasstops” methods, America’s Kids Belong runs innovative initiatives in states to help ensure that every child is in a loving home by: recruiting more foster and adoptive families, engaging wrap-around support for at-risk, foster and adoptive families along the way, and helping youth who have aged out without a family reach their full potential.

I really enjoyed learning from Lindy during our conversation. We talked about trauma and attachment within the foster care lens. We also talked about some of the initiatives that AKB is involved in! Hearing about these brought so much emotion up for me. Vulnerable children are waiting for families as we speak and the work that AKB does to bring these children permanency is so very needed.

I know that this week isn’t a light hearted easy listen. This week will challenge you. BUT I know that this week will educate you and encourage you to speak out for the vulnerable around you.

Or imagine there was a way for you to cross the river for half the year, during the dry season, but in the rainy season, you can’t cross the river at all.
