Christianity provides an alternative to a confused and angry world. The Bible's view of the family is life-giving and healthy. God wants families where both mom and dad are deeply involved, and children obey their parents. 

Moses tells the Israelites in these two scriptures the importance of obeying parents and how the community should respond to those who do not.

In today's podcast, we look at the first five of the 10 Commandments. God speaks these "ten words" from Mt. Sinai. The 10 words of God bring life and structure to God's good world. 

God calls Israel into judgment because of their false view of sacrifice. Instead of sacrifices teaching them about their dependence on God, they believed the sacrifices could "buy" God off. 

In today's podcast, we compare the story of Mount Sinai with Jesus and the Mount of Transfiguration. There are many parallels and one can better understand the story of Jesus's transfiguration in light of Sinai and Moses. 

The writer of Hebrews informs his readers that we have not come to Mount Sinai in fear and in trembling but we have come to Mount Zion to join angels and God's triumphant servants. 

In Exodus 19 we get a glimpse into God's perfect and holy presence on Mount Sinai. 

The Psalmist reminds us that we cant carry our riches into death. Both wise and foolish and rich and poor all face the same fate. We will all one day enter into death. The only one that has the power to ransom us from death is God. In this Psalm, we get a glimpse into the future hope of the gospel. One day Jesus will experience death so that we may be ransomed from the grip of death. 

As Moses continues to lead Israel, he has a visit from his father-in-law, Jethro. Before Jethro gives Moses some advice, he takes the time to praise God for all that He has done for Israel, reminding Moses that while things might be tough, God is still God and is at work, so Praise God!
