In chapter 20 there is a new rebellion led by a man named Sheba. David has lost his grip on his kingdom and it has allowed Joab to gain power. Joab will act in vengeance by killing Amasa and then in turn lead the army in its quest to stop the rebellion of Sheba. More and more we notice Joab taking a lead in the kingdom. 

Psalm 90 is one of the oldest Psalms in the Bible. It was written by Moses and it teaches us the brevity of life. We also learn about the serious nature of sin. In the end, Moses encourages us to be wise and number our days. 

David is still experiencing guilt after the death of Absalom to the chagrin of Joab. It requires a confrontation from Joab for David to snap out f it and give thanks t his army for the battle they just fought. David continues to make bad decisions and fails to be the leader Israel needs him to be.

This chapter is one of the more gutwrenching parts of the book of 2 Samuel. In this chapter, we get a great window into the perplexing issue of justice and love. 

Ahitophel gives Absalom counsel to go out and strike David with a smaller force and only take David. Hushai is acting as a spy for David and subverts the advice of Ahithophel and saves the life of David. 

David's life seems to be unraveling. There is a reversal going on in the narrative in 2 Samuel 16. It appears that David's life is going back to where it started with him fleeing from Saul in the wilderness. 

David has been delivered by God and gives God praise. It seems that David was very sick, almost to the point of death, but God has heard his prayer. David reminds us that we are frail without God's intervention and our proper response is to give him praise. 

David's lack of discipline in his family has led to a complete breakdown in his household. His dereliction of parental duties has now spiraled into a full-fledged rebellion by Absalom. 

Our narrative journey with David has taken a turn for the worse. Absalom's revenge has spiraled into a conspiracy to take down his father. He is plotting to overthrow David and David is oblivious to the ongoing intrigue of his son. 

In this podcast, we conclude the awful incident between Amnon and Tamar. Tamar is violated by her brother and Tamar's full brother Absalom is seething with anger. David shows a total lack of leadership and in the void of his leadership, Absalom strikes and kills his half brother Amnon. Now the crown prince is dead and David's kingdom is in turmoil. The bad news is that things are going to get much worse.
