We are halfway through the year…and man it’s been a year!
At the beginning of this year, I asked my audience and listeners like you this question: who do you want to be at the end of 2020? The vision you had of who you wanted to be at the end of this year may have shifted over the course of the last 6 months.
That’s why right now is a great time to check in on your goals, re-evaluate them if you need to, and take stock of your progress.
This episode is all about checking in with your goals so grab a notebook or make an appointment on your calendar because this episode just might change the game for you.
If you haven’t set any goals yet or done any vision work don’t worry! This episode will still serve you. I would encourage you to tune in to episode 27. Episode 27 will give you a crystal clear roadmap to visualizing your ideal self and formulating goals around that vision of yourself.
Okay let’s get to it!
Evaluating Your Goals
Before we dig in to the evaluation process I want to note that there is no judgment or shame here! Please have compassion for yourself as we work through this process. It’s okay to have little or no progress to show for a goal you set 6 months ago, sometimes it’s okay to abandon goals entirely, and there is no shame in picking up a goal wherever you left off.
With that in mind, let’s dig in to some questions you can reflect on to get a gauge on how your goals are going.
Is it still relevant?
The first question to ask yourself when considering the state of your goals has to do with relevancy. Ask yourself: is my goal still relevant.
With the insane year we’ve had there are bound to be some of us that set a goal at the New Year that simply isn’t relevant now. You might even find that all of your goals have gone to the wayside.
If you were hoping for a promotion and you lost your job your goal may not be relevant anymore.
If you’ve been trying to save money and experienced a severe financial setback your goals might not be relevant anymore.
And in a less extreme example maybe your goal was to lose 5 pounds and you’ve far exceeded that goal. If this is the case for you, your goal might not be relevant anymore.
This question should produce a yes or no answer but it’s okay if you still feel like you’re somewhere in the middle. We will further clarify your goal’s and their importance through the next few questions.
Is it still attainable?
Once you’ve had some time to consider the relevancy of your goal you must now decide if your goals are still attainable. Your goal could very well still be relevant but attaining it can be a totally different story.
Perhaps, you had great ambitions to save a chunk of change and now that you have considered the state of your finances you aren’t sure it’s actually achievable.
That is totally okay, my friend. The whole point here is to answer yes or no and move on without shaming yourself!
Do you still want or need it?
Finally,
