Getting creative with multiple exposures

This week, we take a look at a fun but often neglected feature in our digital cameras: multiple exposures. From simple two-shot composites to creative 9 or 10-shot blends, the multiple exposure feature can deliver some really cool results. We’ll also discuss alternative approaches to creating multiple exposures, both in-camera and with Photoshop.

Lightroom Tip: Selective sharpening

By applying sharpening selectively in Lightroom, you can get professional results and minimize noise. This week, we discuss how to sharpen images selectively in Lightroom using the brush and gradient tools.

Silhouettes and Negative Space; New Mirrorless Gear from Canon

This week, Canon announced three new mirrorless lenses, and a new flagship mirrorless camera body. The Canon EOS R3 is a pro-style body that will be capable of 30 fps stills, and uses an all-new sensor developed by Canon.

Canon also announced a 400mm f/2.8, 600mm f/4, and 100mm f/2.8 macro lens for their mirrorless mount. While the 400 and 600mm lenses are optically identical to existing Canon telephotos, the new 100mm macro lens offers 1.4x magnification and a spherical aberration control ring.

We also discuss the creative use of silhouettes and negative space as a creative technique in photography. We explore how to create these types of images both in your camera and with post-processing.

Shoot the Moon!

Of all the ways to photograph the moon, close-ups tend to be the least interesting. This week, we’ll explore different ways of capturing the moon in your photos and discuss the techniques we use to get the best shots.

Lightroom Tip: Saturation vs Vibrance

Lightroom has two primary color control sliders: Saturation and Vibrance. We’ll take a look at the difference between these two tools and how we use them to get better color in our photos.

Nikon Z9 Announcement

Our thoughts on the new mirrorless flagship from Nikon

This week, Nikon announced the development of the Z9 mirrorless camera. Although specs were scarce, there are a few things we can infer from the product announcement. Adobe released a new update to Camera Raw, which offers a new feature called “super resolution.” This enables ACR (and soon, Lightroom) users to double the linear pixel dimensions of their images while preserving a raw format. Our experiments with Super Resolution suggest that it has a lot of potential in the future for working with highly-cropped images or photos captured with lower-resolution cameras.

When should you use Adobe Photoshop in your workflow?

This week, we’re discussing our editing workflows, and while they are similar, both of us do things a little differently when it comes to our photos. We then take a look at the role of Photoshop for digital photographers. When we first started out in digital photography, Photoshop was practically mandatory. Now, it plays a much lesser (but still important) role in our editing workflows for certain types of images.
