Your ability to take vague direction and turn it into a desired outcome of the business is so important in your engineering career, but it's something I had never thought of before (in that way).
I have been doing this for a long time, since day one actually, but never quite connected the dots to this line of thinking. And I realized something...
It can be a goal, with a strategy, and executed upon to increase your ability to get promoted and gain more responsibility in your engineering career.
I want to share this line of thinking with you in this solo episode of the Impactful Engineer.
Let's dive in!

Delegation for engineers. Ah yes, that endless debate on whether you should just do the work yourself.
Are you in camp delegate, or camp do everything yourself? A healthy mixture of both? It's OK to be in either one, and there are seasons to this just like anything else.
But if you are looking for support in moving up roles, expanding your team, and building a resilient operation that becomes self supporting, then we recommend taking delegation seriously and to start building the skill now.

There is a long term and short term strategy around weaknesses and strengths in your engineering career that can have a huge impact if done correctly.
Do you think about those weaknesses that you don't know about? How about the strengths you don't know about? How do you identify those, and once identified, what do you do with that knowledge?
These questions are answered in today's episode, among many more.
Steve drops a bit of wisdom towards the end of the episode that is simply 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Co-elevation is the key to an impactful career within an organization. How to achieve this is a broad subject that you can only "learn" so much about before you just have to dive in and start practicing it.
We give you what we've learned to be the most effective tactics.
I mention a great book called "Leading Without Authority" in this episode. It captures the essence and is actually where I stole the word co-elevation from. I've been implementing the actions recommended in the book with great success. I highly recommend it.

We all know that someone that appears to be resistant to change, thinks they know everything, seems to be a brick wall to any influence, and definitely doesn't think they are the problem. I mean, I've definitely never been that person before :). Yeah right.
While there are many reasons behind this perception (and let's be real, actuality), there are a few things in the best practices column that we invite you to consider!
We know that at least one of these actionable tips will help someone in their quest to better understand this dynamic, for others, and themselves.
Don't forget to look in the mirror every once in a while!

Steve would say that the most important thing to the beginning of your career is to "consider all options" as you search to land your first job and as you work your way through your first three years.
Steve covers why he believes that choosing the right company may be better than choosing the right job.

Most companies (I could only imagine based on my experience) miss this my a country mile!
I hit on something I am very passionate about. I couldn't even wait until I got home to record, so I put in the ear bud, and let it rip while I was on my way home.
Hope you enjoy it and that you start implementing the concept right away.
