After Jeffrey Epstein’s arrest and death in 2019, authorities faced significant challenges in tracking down Ghislaine Maxwell, who had vanished from public view. She moved carefully through a series of locations, reportedly relying on intermediaries, cash transactions, and burner phones to avoid detection. Investigators said she shifted between luxury properties in the U.S. and abroad, with speculation placing her in France, the U.K., and even remote hideouts. The combination of her financial resources, international connections, and knowledge of how to operate discreetly made her pursuit uniquely difficult for law enforcement.

Ultimately, it took nearly a year of coordinated investigative work to locate her. The FBI relied on financial records, cell phone data, and surveillance of close associates to zero in on her whereabouts. In July 2020, agents raided a secluded New Hampshire estate where she had been living under the radar, using a fake name to purchase the property through an LLC.
