#117 Carmen Rose - Finding Your Authentic Voice

Carmen talks about how important it is to find your authentic voice!

Carmen Rose is a passionate, energetic and dedicated performer, with a vocal talent stemming from her vibrant personality. With a desire to inspire, entertain and ignite joy to her audiences and students, Carmen specialises in singing, song-writing, performing and teaching. Trained in performing arts, she’s had extensive experience on the UK music circuit, performing across many musical styles; Gospel, Rock, Soul, Blues, Metal, Country, Classical and Musical Theatre. Carmen has a developed an 4 octave range which consists of a whistle register.

Her repertoire includes: Performances at The BBC, The Roundhouse, The Richmix, The Royal Albert Hall, Parliament, Canterbury Cathedral, The Queens Jubilee as well as Wembley to name a few.

She has performed internationally around Asia and Europe. Carmen Rose has had the pleasure of performing alongside Brett Manning, Foreign Beggars, Ben Lochrie, Kele La Roc, Ed Skrein, A Noise Next Door and many more. She has gleaned from epic musicians like Stevie Vann, Jenny May and Stanton Moore and has enjoyed every minute of it.  

Carmen has been trained in the following disciplines: Husler, Classical, Opera, Belt, Gospel, Speech Level Singing (SLS), CVT, Method Acting, Musical Theatre, Brecht, Belly Dancing, Stage Presence, Public Speaking, Live Performance Singing and Mic Control, Studio Vocal Recording, Business Pitching.

Carmen is enthusiastic about the success and well-being of her vocal students, through Vitality Vocals. She continues to learn about the voice daily and enjoys sharing her knowledge and helping people reach their goals.

#115 Darren Tate - Suiting Up to Help Others

Darren talks about how he helps others by suiting them up!

We talk about:

• The difference wearing a suit can make to how we feel.
• Filling his mum and dad’s garage and attic with suits. 
• And the dangers of 5-a-side football.

Darren was approached in 2019 by one of his participants on the Moving On Tyne and Wear programme asking for help finding suitable clothing for an interview. He had secured his first interview and didn’t have anything suitable, or any money to buy any. 

Darren was aware of a brilliant service for women called Smartworks who offer free interview clothing but there wasn’t anything set up for men within the North East.

Following this, he donated his own suit for him to wear when attending his interview and he was successful.

Suitability was born.

Mark is the Founder of Holistic Adventures, an offline (& sometimes online) experience that helps men and women release emotional pain and trauma. Part holistic retreat, part coaching workshop, part adventure camp, the experience offers Connection, Healing, Purpose & Escape in a safe environment. Mark is married with 4 children and divides his time between London, Cornwall & Barcelona. 

Mark says; “Dealing with painful emotions and trauma doesn’t have to be done exclusively within the white walls of a therapist’s office. Getting together outdoors in nature and finding connection with other like-minded people can also help ease trauma, release stress and improve one’s overall quality of life in so many areas.”

#113 Alex Barker - How To Be More Pirate

Alex talks about her journey to becoming more pirate!

Alex is a speaker, facilitator, writer and community builder. And a Pirate Captain. 

She joined Sam in 2019 to give life to Be More Pirate as something beyond a book. Before piracy she was Communications Manager at the RSA (Royal Society of Arts), and has spent a decade or so in the non-profit sector building networks and supporting social entrepreneurs. Alex leads the network and would like nothing more than to see a less conventional approach to social change take root. 

In September 2020 Alex and Sam’s new book How to: Be More Pirate was published – an update on the original which dives much deeper into how to effectively rebel & rewrite ‘the rules’.

#112 Debbie Haynes - Follow your heart, not your head

Debbie talks about how she has learned to follow her heart and not her head!

And so, after 25 years in the commercial arena, she took a leap, putting her skillset in Sales, Management and as a company Director into an organisation where she truly believes she can make a difference. The challenges are huge but the gains beyond words. Debbie wanted to be a part of the change that we humans must make, and now she is!

#110 Rebecca Deller - Laughter is the best medicine 

Rebecca speaks to us about how laughter is the best medicine

We talk about:

They say ‘Laughter is the best medicine’ and a phrase that motivated Rebecca Deller to run laughter workshops during 2020.  Rebecca is a Well-being Consultant, Laughter Facilitator and Chief Happiness Officer who works with organisations to help them thrive by helping them to invest in the well-being and happiness of their employees.     

Rebecca’s background spans 12 years working in learning and development teams three years of which were spent in Japan and France.  Her specialisms include people management, mentoring and coaching.  Her passion for well-being was ignited when living and travelling around Asia.  A trip to India inspired an interest in yoga and Ayurveda where she even got to star in a Bollywood film. 

Rebecca likes to take the road less travelled which makes for a bumpy road at times but it is certainly full of adventure!
