The CEO of Bluesky, Jay Graber, gave a talk at SXSW (South by Southwest) on the future of social media. Although I typically don't cover Bluesky on this show, I listened to the whole interview and thought it was fantastic. In this episode I share some of my favorite clips from the interview.

It's Wednesday, which means Wednesday Waffle, where I talk about a topic unrelated to social media. But of course, that's after the news. On today's episode you'll hear from the YouTube team with an update about Dream Screen, plus a Phishing scam that's going around. Also TikTok has some updates to help teens stay safe on the platform, and the Head of Instagram explains how to manage collaboration Reels on your profile page, plus de-bunks the myth that editing video in another app hinders your reach on Instagram.

Instagram held an "Unfiltered" event in Manhattan last week. Was I invited? No. Am I salty about it? Yes. Help me get invited to the next Instagram event or help me plan my own event that's better than Instagram's. On this episode, we share key takeways from the event, and the Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, explains what new features he's excited about and answers lots of other questions.

The Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, does an Ask Me Anything session on his Instagram Story every Friday. But it's hard to remember to watch those every Friday. Fortunately I download all the clips and play them on the show, then give my take on all of his answers, giving them context, or disagreeing if I feel it's appropriate. Today Adam answers questions like "What's the right mix of personal and professional content to share?" which leads me to ponder if it's better to have 2 accounts in that kind of situation.

Instagram is apparently exploring making Reels as its own separate app, and there's a rumor going around that if you save an Instagram post in your drafts, it gets less reach. (This is wrong.) Also on the show, the Head of Trust and Safety at TikTok stops by, the YouTube team explains how they're giving creators more options for mid-roll ads, and I ask kindly for a review of the show on Apple Podcasts.
