For our eighth podcast, listen to 19-year-old Caroline Hesby read and discuss her brilliant, feminist piece, "June 24, 2022," in conversation with TIWP founder, Elizabeth Perlman.
Beginning with a conversation on reproductive rights and the chronic dangers of being female,* this is also a discussion about the creative writing process: the power of writing from the heart and speaking our truth in a simple way, trusting that what is simple is also deep—and will ripple outward, resonating with everyone who hears it.
The psychologist Carl R. Rogers once said, "what is most personal is most universal," and that has certainly be our experience, in every one of our writing classes. This is why writing also cultivates empathy, both for ourselves and others, helping us to regard the world with greater understanding and compassion.
* This episode explores adult themes and may not be suitable for children.
