Rather than interviewing candidates year-round, what “always be hiring” involves is a shift in mindset. It means thinking of yourself and your entire team as both a recruiter and an ambassador for your practice, even when you are outside of your office. It also means assessing your current team, actively networking, and thinking about your sourcing needs long before an employee hands in their two weeks' notice.

Are you constantly searching for the next thing? The next title, relationship, or financial milestone? Do you wear the title “busy” as a badge of honour? I see you, and I have been there.

Today, I want to share a philosophy that came to me during my last decade of my own personal growth and development. I call it the Power in the Pause. In my story, I was constantly sprinting to the “next thing” until I hit a brick wall, which was my diagnosis of a brain tumour. That brick wall was the first time that I got knocked on my tail- it forced me to stop. It forced me to pause.

Up until that point, I thought that power only came from doing. After being forced to pause, I have realized that the power really is in the pause. When we create pauses in our life, we create space for magic to show up. Things that we are meant to hear can now show up because there is space in our life for them to come.

Fast forward to this past month where I was at an offsite with my team where the intention was to pause. Join me as I share the magic that showed up in that pause.

What’s your edge as we head into 2023? What is that “thing” in your life that keeps persisting (showing up) that you continue to resist.

In this episode I dive into a new journey I am personally on, cold plunging. Physically putting myself into a freezing cold lake with many elements has become my new edge, one I resisted for years. In my lived experience, the things I resist are always the greatest life lessons and worth exploring.

I deeply believe that we will never fully understand how capable we are until we get to the edge and look over the side of it.

My ask of you is to simply explore what your edge is. What would happen if we stayed curious instead of resisting? What would be possible if we leaned into the resistance and realized it was just another growth edge for us.

Welcome to the Jackie Serviss Show! This podcast has been on my heart for a long time, and I am so glad you are here. For those of you who don’t know me, I am Jackie Serviss- corporate veteran turned entrepreneur and people strategist. On this podcast we are going to talk about all things business, hiring, entrepreneurship, mom life, mindset work and spirituality.

In this episode, I share my journey, starting with growing up in Waterloo, Ontario and my competitive swimming career. Looking back, I can see a lot of correlation between athletics and business. Post- university, I landed a job at PepsiCo., and in my years working in corporate HR, I found myself always pushing for “what’s next”- the title, the salary, the lifestyle. All of this came to a screeching halt in 2012 when I walked into a doctors office and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. This news shifted who I was as a human and made me reevaluate all of the things I thought I had wanted and had been working towards. Today, I look back at this time and realize this is what created space for a new version of myself to be born.

Through my diagnosis, I discovered new tools that became pillars to unlocking the next version of myself. I continued on my path in corporate America, but as I continued to achieve goals- I felt empty. This led me to finally leave corporate America to start on a new path as an entrepreneur. Although building my own business felt overwhelming at times, the big shift of learning to trust myself led me to lean in which ultimately led me to where I am today.

If you are going through a dark moment or major shift in your life, it could end up being the thing that cracks you open for the next version of yourself to flourish.
