This week we discuss the travels of some of the saints travels from Independence, Missouri back to Kirtland, Ohio and other areas.  The Elders that had been set apart to teach were not doing much preaching.  They were focused on other things such as getting back as well as being fearful of others if they were to preach the word of The Lord from the newly founded Church of Jesus Christ.  The Lord rebuked them in that they were to repent and teach the gospel.  

He tells them that it did not matter what way they traveled as long as they fulfilled their mission along the way to preach the Gospel.

This week we talk about the initial disappointment that was felt by many members of the church when they showed up in Independence, Missouri expecting to see a thriving community of Saints.  They later discovered it was not time for them to build the city of Zion.  In a revelation to Joseph Smith, The Lord told the saints "Ye cannot behold with your natural eyes, for the present time, the design of your God...and the glory which shall follow after much tribulation."  

Many times it is so much harder to keep our eyes on the promised blessings rather than focus on the current tribulation we are experiencing.  That's one reason it is important to stay "Anxiously engaged in a good cause"  It will help us forget about our current struggles and challenges.  Then before we know it, the blessings have come!

What good causes are you "anxiously engaged in"?  

We discuss the faith of Polly Knight.  We also discuss the sabbath day and what the early saints might have done to keep the sabbath day holy.  It easier today to keep it holy or in the early days of the church.

Join us this week as we discuss the continued difficulties the saints had of building up the church.   All while having to move, purchase new lands and re establish themselves time and time and again.  The early saints were challenged physically and spiritually to build of God's Kingdom here on the earth.  From Bishop Edward Partridge, Leman Copley, Sidney Gilbert, to Newel Knight, W.W. Phelps, Ezra Thayre, and Thomas B. Marsh.  All of these men were faced with their own challenges as The Lord looked for each mean to use their talents, means, and time to build up the Kingdom of God on earth.  We find that some were willing to do anything that was required of them while others, although having a willing mind and heart, lacked the courage to fulfill their duties.  Let's see what we can learn from these early saints and how we can apply it to our lives.  The road traveled is not an easy one.

Heidi Simpson from Saints In The South sits down with some moms to discuss their true feelings of Mother's Day.  As we look to celebrate our mothers this year in 2021, lets look a litter deeper into what it means to be a woman and a mother in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  

Heidi facilitates a wonderful discussion of the highs and the lows of the hardest job on the planet.  It's 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365.25 days out of the year.  They get one day to be celebrated.  Do we ever do it justice.  Do we every give the moms in our lives the credit they deserve.  

How do moms really feel about mother's day?  Is there pressure to live up to a certain standard of motherhood in the Gospel of Jesus Christ?  What if you really don't want to be a mother but have to anyway?  What if you really want to be a mother, but don't get to be?  

Is there a Heavenly Mother?  What is expected of me as a mother?  How does knowing I have a mother in heaven help me?  What if I'm not naturally maternal?  What If I want to be a mother but can't.  These are all questions that Heidi brings up in the discussion.

This we talk about the gifts of the spirit, who has them, and how we can obtain them.  Gifts of the spirit come in many forms.  Sometimes we don't even recognize the gifts that we do have but there others recognize those gifts we have.  If there are gifts that you want, you can seek after those gifts and encouraged to do so.  Gifts of the spirit are like our temporal talents.  They have to be exercised, worked, studied on, and developed.  

We also talk about who is welcome in our church.  Early on there was some confusion as to who could attend church with the saints.  There were some who wanted to exclude people.  The Lord made it clear that all our welcome.  And today, on all church buildings, you will see that "visitors are welcome".  

Finally, we talk about who can partake of the sacrament and if all should partake of the sacrament and what does it mean for a non member to partake of the sacrament vs. a member.

This week we discuss the second coming of our Savior Jesus Christ.  

The early saints were feeling more and more ridicule and persecution.  They began to fear man and doubt.  There were many false stories and rumors spread about to prevent people from investigating the church.  The Lord provided this revelation to help them know that He was in control and that the signs that were to come would also be a sign of blessings to come.  

We discuss how Christ is the our advocate!  We discuss the parable of the 10 virgins and what that means to us in our day.  We also discuss how Satan will be bound during the millennium and what it is that actually binds him.  Is it physical chains, or spiritual chains through the righteousness of the people.

Kenny, AKA "The Professor", is back with us this week as we discuss the law of consecration.  As the saints gather to "The Ohio" they attempt to live a law of consecration on their own.  Inspired by New Testament scripture in Acts, the saints wanted to be as Christ like as possible.  Although their hearts were in the right place, they misunderstood the law.  They chose to go into each others homes and take what they wanted.  This is not the Lord's Way.  We dive into what it means to live the law of consecration.  Is the law intended to be lived today?  How can we live the law of Consecration today

The Saints are called to leave their homes and move to "The Ohio."  A call to move west by The Lord was a challenge for some.  What are you willing to do when called upon by the Lord.  Specifically, James Covel, covenanted to obey any command from The Lord given through the Prophet Joseph Smith.  A day later, he backed out and chose to do otherwise.  What are we to learn from this revelation recorded in the Doctrine & Covenants given to James Covel, a man who was with the saints for only a few weeks.
