Although Martin Harris, David Whitmer, and Oliver Cowdery sincerely wanted to be the 3 witnesses to the Book of Mormon Gold Pates, did they fully understand what would be required of them.  It is comforting to know that even though Oliver Cowdery and David Whitmer  fell away from the church with Oliver returning after about 10 years of exile, all 3 fervently maintained their solemn witness of the gold plates, and the Angel Moroni.

Would we be willing to walk away while amongst our friends claiming to be the one that was preventing the angel from appearing as Martin did.  Martin is often first mentioned for having lost the 116 pages.  But it is Martin that mortgages his farm for the printing of The Book of Mormon.  

We discuss the miraculous story of the field being plowed overnight.  We discuss some of the scriptures that stand out to us.  

Martin Harris, Oliver Cowdery, and David Whitmer are all attacked by Satan in many ways in his attempts to stop the restoration of the church.  But as we have stated before, Satan may win some battles, but God will win the war.   

There are others who have witnessed the Gold Plates, such as Marty Whitmer.  It is interesting to note that although she saw them, she was not called to testify of them.  She obtained that blessing without having to bear that burden.  A burden it truly was as people tried to destroy those men.

Join us this week as week as we discuss the revelation given to Joseph Knight Sr. and the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood through John the Baptist.

Joseph Knight Sr. was a humble and faithful friend to Joseph Smith.  He was there time and time again supporting him and the work of the Lord.  Joseph Knight represent many of us in the church.  We don't have a huge part to play in the restoration or moving the work forward but what we do is huge.  No one person's responsibilities, callings, assignments, etc. are bigger or smaller than the others.  All are for the purpose of bringing people to Christ.  

Oliver Cowdery and Joseph Smith sought guidance about the authority of God and baptism.  There in Harmony, PA, they were visited by John the Baptist who restored the Aaronic Priesthood to them and gave them authority to Baptize.  We look into why John didn't just do all of this himself since he was the one who had the authority.  Why did he have Joseph and Oliver baptize each other.  

Finally, we look at the most intriguing part of section 13 where we are told that sacrifice will be brought back to the earth for a time.

Heidi Simpson readily admits that she did not grow up dreaming of being a mother.  She didn't dream of days when she would have a house full of rambunctious children running around  creating a bunch of "happy" chaos. 

However, that's exactly what she got.  The Lord had different plans for her.  As most mothers do, she has sacrificed some temporal pursuits of her own to be the rock of her family.  A rock that is needed when raising 4 children, 2 of which are on the autism spectrum.
  
With her hard working husband, Thomas, gone much of the time during the day providing for the family, she provides the direction and care at home their children need.  

Heidi shares some experiences of discovering and raising autistic children, She shares an experience of when the spirit really shook her to help her know that their second child was being sent to them at time when they needed her.

Heidi also talks about her evolution of fitness and what she has been able to allow herself to become rather than following the pressures of the world.  Heidi's family has lived in several areas of the country experiencing gospel living in many places.  She had a strong family foundation that raised her strong in the church but also admits that she is a little jealous of her husband who was not raised in the church.  She does not mean that in a negative way, but in a personal growth way.  

Heidi speaks to how she and Thomas have been able to travel this road together while figuring things out along the way, especially when it came to raising their family with all of the dynamics involved.  She offers some tips on what not say and how not to interact with a family that has autistic children.  Finally, she talks about how they find joy in living the gospel of Jesus Christ.

One's thing is for sure, Heidi is proud of her family and the legacy they are leaving as they blaze their trail in this world!!

As Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery finished up the translation of the Book of Mormon, they questioned whether they should retranslate the lost 116 pages portion.  They went to the Lord for guidance.  Joseph Smith received Doctrine & Covenants Section 10.  The Lord instructed Joseph not to retranslate.  The Lord knew the evil designs of Satan before they even happened.  The Lord's prophets, Nephi and Mormon had included additional writings without really knowing why they were doing it.  For a wise purpose in the Lord as they stated.  

Satan has many evil designs and wicked ways to try and destroy the work of the Lord.  As we discuss, Satan may win a few battles as he did with the 116 lost manuscript, but God will win the war.  

The Lord told Joseph to "pray always that you may come off conqueror; yea that you may conquer Satan."  What a powerful statement that is.  In this life, we are constantly striving to overcome Satan's temptations as he seeks to wrap us up in his chains that he may bring us down to hell.  

Hyrum hears about his brother Samuel getting baptized and his dad receiving a revelation from the Lord through Joseph Smith.  Hyrum desires to know be more involved spiritually.  As a result, Joseph received Doctrine & Covenants section 11, as a revelation for Hyrum.  Hyrum is told that he would assist in bringing the work of the Lord forward but to be patient and prepare.  Prepare spiritually,  look upon the things of God and not the things of the world.  

Join us as we discuss how we can apply these personal revelations to these individuals in our lives.  The wonderful things about these scriptures is that they can still be applied to us in our day.

Oliver Cowdery was a seeker of truth much like Joseph Smith.  He was a young school teacher that had went to Manchester for some work.  While teaching there, he had heard about Joseph Smith, his visions and the gold plates.  Intrigued by what he heard, he asked to stay with the parents of Joseph Smith so he could learn more.  

As time passed, Oliver earned the trust of Joseph Sr. and Lucy.  They told him more and more about their son's experiences and what he was doing.  Oliver felt a strong desire to move to Harmony to find out more.  They encouraged Oliver to pray before deciding.  Oliver did just that and was shown in vision, Joseph Smith and his struggles to complete the translation.  Oliver knew he was to go there and assist Joseph in the Work.  

Oliver, being a learned man, was immediately asked to draw up a contract fore Joseph and his father-in-law Isaac Hale to assure Isaac that Joseph would pay for the property he and Emma had received.  Oliver and Joseph went to work on completing the translation.  

What can we learn about revelation?  Who is revelation for?  Is it just for the prophets or is it for everyone?  How long does it take to learn how to receive revelation?  Is it days, weeks, months, or years.  President Russell M. Nelson spoke to this in a general conference talk.
