Adolescence is a British psychological television crime drama created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, directed by Philip Barantini, and produced by Warp Films in collaboration with Plan B Entertainment for Netflix. The series follows Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper), a 13-year-old boy, who is accused for the murder of Katie Leonard (Emilia Holliday), a 15 year old girl from the same school.[3] The series explore the themes of effects of unsupervised social media on children, online youth radicalisation, toxic masculinity, and the influence of the 'manosphere' on vulnerable youth. The narrative examines the psychological and societal factors contributing to Jamie's actions, offering a poignant commentary on contemporary issues affecting adolescents.
The four-episode limited series premiered on Netflix on 13 March 2025. Upon its release, Adolescence achieved significant viewership success globally, amassing record breaking viewership and in the process became the third most watched Netflix's most popular English-language series of all time exceeding 124 million views.[4] Adolescence also became the first streaming show in the UK to place at the top of the Barb Audiences weekly television ratings. [5]The series received universal critical acclaim for acting performances, particularly those of Cooper, Graham and Erin Doherty, writing, directing and cinematography style where each episode was filmed in a one continuous take.[6] [7]
The series has sparked widespread conversations about the themes it explores and their impact on the adolescents including online misogyny and youth vulnerability. In the UK, the series was made available to view free in secondary schools up on the endorsement of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer who highlighted its educational value in fighting societal issues faced by the UK youth. [8]
Series writer Thorne initially dismissed the possibility of a second season, pointing out that the intention was to tell Jaime's story and it was achieved in the series. However following the series' success, Plan B Entertainment, Barantini and the original creative team were in discussions regarding a potential further season of the series.

Born in dacoit-infested Chambal, Manoj Kumar Sharma is the son of a clerk. His father, an honest man, is suspended for hitting a corrupt officer. Manoj prepares cheat slips for his Class 12 exams, as do all his batchmates. The teachers at the local school help students cheat. However, a newly transferred police officer, DSP Dushyant Singh, stops cheating at the school. As a result, all the students, including Manoj, fail the exam.
Meanwhile, Manoj's father leaves home to challenge his suspension in the High Court. To support the family, Manoj and his brother run a traveling rickshaw. However, his brother is falsely accused of smuggling alcohol after hitting the local henchman of the MLA after he tries to have their passengers travel on a bus. Local police officers frame his brother, but Manoj bails him out with the help of DSP Dushyant. When Manoj expresses his desire to become an officer like him, Dushyant advises him to "stop cheating".
One year later, Manoj passes his exams without cheating and pursues a B.A. to become a DSP. His paternal grandmother gives him all her savings as he sets out to study in Gwalior, but he loses all his belongings on the way to a woman who steals them while he dozes off in the bus he is travelling in. He then learns that the government has decided to stop the Group I exams for MPPSC for the next three years. This destroys his dream of becoming a DSP.
Struggling without money for food, a local hotel owner near the railway station offers him free meals. There he meets Pritam Pandey, who had also come to study for the PSC exam. Pandey's father calls him and tells him to prepare for the UPSC exam in Delhi. Manoj learns about UPSC and travels with Pritam to Delhi to study and become an IPS officer. He meets Gauri Bhaiya, a fellow aspirant on his last attempt to pass, who provides Manoj with work and a place to study. Gauri Bhaiya is unable to clear his final attempt and opens a tea shop named "Restart" and also provides guidance to other UPSC aspirants.
In his first attempt, Manoj fails the preliminary examination, but with Gauri's help, he reappears and manages to clear it the following year. During a visit to a coaching centre, he meets Shraddha Joshi, a UKPSC aspirant, and falls in love with her. She assumes he is an aeronautical engineer, but he was actually a literature graduate and does not correct her. Despite hard work, Manoj fails to clear his main examinations that year due to a trivial mistake. His relationship with Shraddha also suffers when she learns the truth about his degree. Disheartened, Manoj travels to Mussoorie to apologise to Shraddha and confess his love. However, she bluntly asks him to return to Delhi.
Manoj visits his home and finds that his grandmother has passed away. He returns to Delhi, determined to pass the examination. Manoj works in a mill to earn money to send home and cover his own expenses, where he also resides. Shraddha arrives to their coaching class in Delhi and apologizes to Manoj for being rude. They reconcile and again become close. Manoj passes the preliminaries, and Shraddha expresses her love for him.

Mahavir Singh Phogat, a former amateur wrestler trained in the pehlwani style of Indian wrestling, is a national wrestling champion residing in Balali, Haryana. His average Indian father forces him to give up the sport to obtain gainful employment. Dejected he could not win a medal for his country, he vows that his unborn son will. Disappointed on having four daughters, he gives up hope. But when his older daughters Geeta and Babita come home after beating two boys in response to derogatory comments, he realizes their potential to become wrestlers and begins coaching them.
His methods seem harsh. He forces them to do grueling early morning workouts, and forcefully gets their hair cut short. Despite facing backlash from the villagers, he goes on training them in his makeshift mud pit. Initially, the girls resent their father for his treatment but soon realize that he cares for their future. Motivated, they willingly participate in wrestling tournaments where they defeat boys. Unable to afford wrestling mats, Mahavir uses mattresses and trains them in freestyle wrestling to prepare them for competitive events. Geeta goes on to win the junior and senior championships at the state and national levels before heading to the National Sports Academy in Patiala to train for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.
Once there, Geeta makes friends and begins to disregard the discipline taught by Mahavir under duress from her coach Pramod Kadam, whose training methods and wrestling techniques completely differ from her father's. Therefore, she loses every match at the international level. During a visit home, she defeats a visibly exhausted Mahavir in a ferocious bout after egotistically mocking him. Babita reminds Geeta of her mistake and that she should respect Mahavir. Soon after, Babita wins the national championship and follows Geeta to the academy. After the two sisters have an emotional conversation in which Babita provides her encouragement, Geeta tearfully makes peace with Mahavir.
Before the Commonwealth Games, Pramod forces Geeta to compete in the 51 kg weight class rather than in her usual 55 kg. Irritated upon learning this, Mahavir goes to Patiala with his nephew Omkar and begins coaching the girls secretly. Learning about this, and furious with Mahavir's interference, Pramod wants the girls expelled; the sports authority issues a warning but allows them to continue. Mahavir is barred from entering the academy, and the girls are forbidden to go out. Determined to continue assisting his daughters, Mahavir obtains tapes of Geeta's previous unsuccessful bouts and coaches her by pointing out her errors over the phone.
At the games, competing in the 55 kg class, Geeta eases her way into the final. Mahavir constantly contradicts Pramod's instructions while sitting in the audience, and she follows her father's instructions instead. Just before the gold medal bout, jealous Pramod conspires to lock Mahavir in a room.
In the bout, Geeta manages to win the first session but loses the second. Trailing 1–5 in the final session and with nine seconds left, she recalls the tactics taught by her father and a 5-pointer, and executes it on her opponent in the final three seconds, taking the score to 6–5 in her favor, thus winning the session

Chatur Ramalingam, a successful vice-president, reminds his old college rivals Farhan Qureshi and Raju Rastogi about a bet he made with their classmate and Chatur's nemesis Rancho ten years ago. Chatur has returned to India to conclude a business deal with Phunsukh Wangdu, a famous entrepreneur. The three go to Shimla to find Rancho, reminiscing about their time at the Imperial College of Engineering (ICE) in Delhi.
In college, Rancho was passionate about learning and often clashed with the strict college director, Dr. Viru Sahastrabuddhe ("Virus"). When a student named Joy Lobo is denied graduation by Virus for not submitting a project, Rancho tries to help finish his project for him but finds out that Joy has committed suicide by hanging. Rancho confronts Virus about the intense pressure on students, but Virus dismisses him. Afterwards Rancho meets Farhan and Raju's families. Farhan's father is very strict with his son's education and has been pushing him to long for engineering and brushing off his true passion for wildlife photography. Raju's family is struggling through poverty in which is why he is studying to become an engineer.
One night, Rancho, Farhan, and Raju crash a wedding party, not knowing it is for Virus's daughter Mona. Mona's younger sister, Pia, is initially upset with Rancho but starts liking him after he exposes her money-minded fiancé Suhas. Pia breaks up with Suhas. Virus warns Farhan and Raju about associating with Rancho, so Raju moves in with Chatur aka Silencer, a competitive student who relies on rote learning, eats pills that cause flatulence and distributes porn magazines on the night before an exam. Rancho and Farhan prank Chatur by altering his Hindi speech with vulgar modification, leading to his humiliation. Furious, Chatur challenges Rancho to see who is more successful in ten years.
Before their final exams, Raju's father has a heart attack. Rancho and Pia help save him by bringing him to the hospital. Virus bets Rancho that neither Farhan nor Raju will get a job after graduation. Rancho tells his friends why they struggle: Farhan's passion is photography, not engineering, and Raju is fearful of his future. Farhan and Raju promise to confront their issues if Rancho confesses his feelings for Pia. They drunkenly break into Virus's house, and Farhan and Raju urinate on his letterbox. Virus notices Raju at his doorstep and threatens to expel him unless he betrays Rancho. Not wanting to disappoint his family or to betray Rancho, Raju attempts suicide but survives and is paralyzed and near catatonic for months, leading Virus to revoke the expulsion. After Raju recovers, he succeeds in the interview and gets a job, and Farhan convinces his father to let him become a photographer.
Following the trio's expulsion, Pia, having given the office key to the trio, finally confronts her older sister, Mona, and her father by revealing that her brother, who was presumed to have died in a train accident, actually committed suicide due to the pressure his father had put him through into becoming an engineer, since he wanted to pursue his own dream by becoming a writer instead, but only to simply write a suicide note.

Ishaan is an 8-year-old boy living in Mumbai, who has trouble following school. He is assumed by all to simply hate learning and deemed a troublemaker, and is belittled for it. He has even repeated the 3rd standard due to his academic failures from the previous year. Ishaan's imagination, creativity, and talent for art and painting are often disregarded. Ishaan's father, Nandkishore Awasthi, is a successful executive who expects his sons to excel and his mother, Maya, is a homemaker who is frustrated by her inability to educate Ishaan. His elder brother Yohaan is an exemplary student and athlete in whose shadow Ishaan remains, though he is the most supportive of Ishaan.
One day his parents are called by the principal to discuss his behavior and grades. Fed up with Ishaan's failures, lack of improvement, and rebellious behavior, Nandkishore sends him to a boarding school despite Maya and Yohan's protests. Alone there, Ishaan rapidly sinks into a state of fear, anxiety and depression, which is only worsened by the teachers' strict and abusive regime. Ishaan's only friend is Rajan Damodaran, a physically disabled boy who is one of the top students and resides with his family there, as his father is part of the school's board. Ishaan contemplates suicide one day, but is stopped thanks to Rajan's interference. Rajan subsequently informs Ishaan that Mr. Holkar, the boarding school's art teacher, has left and is being replaced by someone else.
Ram Shankar Nikumbh, a cheerful and optimistic instructor at the Tulips School for young children with developmental disabilities, joins as the boarding school's temporary art teacher the same day, replacing Mr. Holkar. Ram's teaching style is markedly different from Holkar's, and Ram quickly notes Ishaan's unhappiness after Ishaan fails to draw anything during the class. Ram reviews Ishaan's work and concludes that his academic shortcomings are indicative of dyslexia. Ram then visits Ishaan's house in Mumbai, where Ram is surprised to discover Ishaan's hidden interest in art. Flustered, Ram demonstrates to Maya and Yohaan how Ishaan has extreme difficulty in understanding letters and words due to dyslexia and his poverty in sports skills stems from his poor motor ability (which also applies to his difficulty in tying shoelaces and judging the size, speed and distance of a ball). Nandkishore labels it as an intellectual disability (as well as an excuse) and dismisses it as laziness, much to Ram's frustration.
Back at school, Ram brings up the topic of dyslexia in a class by offering a list of famous dyslexic people. Ram comforts Ishaan, telling him how he struggled as a child as well. Ram obtains the principal's permission to become Ishaan's tutor. With gradual care, Ram works to improve Ishaan's reading and writing by using remedial techniques developed by dyslexia specialists. Eventually, both Ishaan's demeanor and grades improve. One day, Nandkishore visits the school and tells Ram that he and Maya have read up on dyslexia and understand the condition. Ram mentions that what Ishaan needs more than understanding is that someone loves him. Outside, Nandkishore sees Ishaan attempting to read from a board. With teary eyes, Nandkishore is unable to face Ishaan and he walks away.

Shamsher Singh is a powerful Indian arms dealer in Abu Dhabi and owns a private island, Al-Shifa, for trading arms. Sikander “Sikku” Singh is Shamsher's stepson. Yash, Shamsher's assistant, is a close associate at Shamsher's empire, and Raghuvendra "Raghu" Singh, is the personal assistant and close confidante to Shamsher. In a flashback scene, it is revealed that Rana Singha is Shamsher's business rival, who creates problems for Shamsher's family and his business. As Sanjana and Sooraj, Shamsher's children, reach 25 years old, their family lawyer explains their deceased mother's will. As per the will, the twins are entitled to 50% of the property and 50% of the shares as joint partners (25% each), and the remaining 50% for Sikander. This disparity causes the twins to hate Sikander even more as Shamsher preferred Sikander over the twins. Shamsher tells both of them that Sikander is the son of Shamsher's elder brother, Ranchor Singh, who was actually CEO of Al-Shifa.
In a flashback, that portrays the Handia village of the 1970s, the history of the Singh family is depicted. Both the Singh brothers used to supply weapons to Indian army. Local politicians of Handia asked them for illegal weapons, to which Ranchor refused. His refusal caused a rivalry with a local politician, Gajendra Pathak. One day, during an ambush on an arms truck which was owned by Ranchor's company, Gajendra’s son Narendra was killed by Ranchor. Ranchor then died when his car was blown-up by a bomb. The arms company owned by the Singh family was declared to be an anti-state organization and accused of supplying weapons to terrorists. Shamsher sent Sikander to Beijing for studies and took Sikander's widowed mother Sumitra to Al-Shifa. After a year, the twins were born.
In present-day Al-Shifa, one night, Yash talks about his girlfriend. Sikander reveals that in Beijing, he fell in love with a girl named Jessica who severed ties with him. Shamsher's childhood friend Brijmohan tells him that his friend's hotel was used by politicians for their lascivious motives where all the activity was captured on a spy video camera and stored on a hard disk. The hard disk was kept in a bank locker in Cambodia. Shamsher appoints Sikander to recover the hard disk, and he promises to get the disk. The next day, during a party, it is revealed that Jessica is actually Yash's girlfriend. Sikander and Jessica meet privately in the security room. The next day, Sooraj and Sanjana, who had recorded the Sikander-Jessica meet, screen the video to Yash. A furious Yash goes to Jessica's apartment and finds Sikander present with her. Sikander later tells him that both of their past interactions with Jessica were planned by Sooraj and Sanjana, as part of their plan to destroy Sikander. Yash teams up with Sikander against the twins but pretends to be with the twins as well. Sikander, the twins, Yash and Jessica, execute the mission to recover the hard disk.

A nude humanoid alien lands on Earth on a research mission in Rajasthan, India, and is stranded when the remote control to summon his spaceship is stolen. In Belgium, an Indian woman, Jagat "Jaggu" Janani Sahni, meets a Pakistani man, Sarfaraz Yousuf, and falls in love with him. Her father objects to their relationship, citing their different religions, and consults their family astrologer, godman Tapasvi Maharaj, who predicts Sarfaraz will betray Jaggu. Determined to prove them wrong, Jaggu asks Sarfaraz to marry her, only to be heartbroken after receiving an unsigned letter calling off their wedding and not to contact him.
Jaggu returns to India and becomes a journalist. She is intrigued after finding the alien distributing pamphlets about a "missing" God. She earns his trust by rescuing him when he attempts to take money from a temple's donation box as a "refund" for God's broken promises, and he opens up to her. He stole clothes and money from a couple having sex in a car and befriended a bandmaster, Bhairon Singh. He learned Bhojpuri at a brothel by holding hands and exchanging memories with a prostitute and started looking for the thief who stole his remote in Delhi, where he earned the name "PK" (drunk) as people thought he was intoxicated when getting confused with different religions. When told only God can help him, he began practising many Indian religions, including Hinduism, Sikhism, Christianity and Islam, attempting to find "God" to no avail. He found out Tapasvi had his remote but refused to return it, claiming it was a gift from God. Believing his story after a brief hesitation, Jaggu promises to help PK.
After Jaggu pranks an unknown caller in front of him, PK naively conjectures Tapasvi and his other godmen must be unintentionally dialing a "wrong number" to communicate with God, advising the public against engaging in meaningless rituals for their prayers. Intrigued, Jaggu encourages the public to expose fraudulent godmen by sending their videos to her news channel. Gradually, this "wrong number" campaign turns into a popular mass movement, much to the dismay of Tapasvi. Meanwhile, Bhairon finds the thief in Rajasthan and informs PK that he sold the remote to Tapasvi. PK realises Tapasvi was a fraud all along, intentionally misleading people. Bhairon and the thief are later killed in a terrorist attack.
PK claims people should believe in the "real" God that created them instead of other fraudulent godmen and their "duplicate" God. Tapasvi claims he has a direct connection to "God", citing his prediction of Sarfaraz's betrayal to prove Muslims to be liars. Having absorbed Jaggu's memories earlier, PK claims he can disprove his prediction and reveals Sarfaraz had not written the letter to Jaggu, citing the presence of another bride as a possible recipient that day. Shocked, Jaggu contacts the Pakistani Embassy in Belgium, where Sarfaraz worked part-time, and learns Sarfaraz has been awaiting her call for a long time, proving he still loves her. It is revealed that Sarfaraz had found the same letter that day and, believing it to be from Jaggu, stopped contacting her. Jaggu and Sarfaraz tearfully reconnect while Jaggu's father realises Tapasvi's true colours, and forces him to return the remote to PK.

Ranvijay "Vijay" Singh is the son of Balbir Singh, a powerful Delhi-based industrialist, owner of Swastik Steels, a generational steel empire. Vijay is an aggressive person with extremist masculine views. Despite Balbir being a strict father, Vijay idolises and worships him. Balbir doesn't know about his son's devotion to him due to his busy schedule, which also keeps him from spending time with his family.
One day, Balbir expels a teenage Vijay to a boarding school in the US when Vijay threatens the bullies of his elder sister Reet with an AK-47. Vijay finishes his education and becomes a spacecraft engineer and returns home after several years. During Balbir's birthday party, Vijay gets into an argument with his brother-in-law, Varun, prompting Balbir to expel him from the house again. Vijay marries his childhood girlfriend, Geetanjali, and the couple cuts ties with their families and moves to the US, where they have two children.
Eight years later, Vijay now a bearded brute returns to India upon learning that Balbir was the victim of an assassination attempt. After meeting his father, Vijay reconciles and takes charge of his family and openly threatens to slit the throats of the people involved in the assassination attempt on live television. He rounds up his cousins from the village for backup security and recruits a body double for his father, who is eventually killed by a gangster named Asrar Haque. Vijay discovers Varun's role in the assassination attempt and kills him publicly at a conference with his cousins, where Asrar is also present. When Vijay and his cousins meet Freddy, an arms dealer, at a hotel, Asrar arrives with his assailants to kill Vijay. Vijay takes them all down with a machine gun but Asrar shoots him multiple times, but Vijay kills Asrar and threatens to destroy everyone involved, but he gets severely wounded and bedridden with a damaged sense of hearing.
Two weeks later, Vijay undergoes a heart transplant for his failing heart. In Scotland, Asrar's elder brother Abrar Haque learns of Asrar's death during Abrar's third wedding and publicly kills the messenger at the wedding. Abrar and his other brother Abid head to a house, where they shoot the man who was keeping tabs on Asrar, revealing Abrar was the one behind Balbir's assassination attempt. Vijay recuperates after several months and is approached by Zoya, the fiancée of his heart donor. Vijay starts an extramarital affair with Zoya, who eventually reveals that she was sent by Abrar to honeytrap him so that one of his brothers, who transformed himself into another Vijay through plastic surgery, would kill his family. Vijay reveals that he already knew this and played along to learn the mastermind's identity, but allows her to walk away unharmed after insulting her.
