As the Executive Director for the American Red Cross of Western Maryland, I have responsibility to conduct Chapter business and implement corporate policies as they relate to Western MD. I partner with the Chapter Red Cross Board of Directors in fundraising, strategic planning and service delivery, and serve as a member of the regional leadership team supporting and contributing to the region’s goals and activities. I help ensure strong Red Cross visibility by working with local media, forming high-level relationships with key organizations and community leaders, and engaging with donors and leaders within local governments, corporations, civic organizations and other community charitable and nonprofit agencies.

Sean Nicholson, Outreach and Development, spent most of his life battling addiction. Since entering recovery, he has dedicated his life to serving the recovering community. Using his experience with non-profit organizations in Frederick and surrounding areas, Sean recently facilitated a strategic partnership with Frederick County Public Schools to raise awareness and to educate middle and high school students about addiction and recovery. Sean is Executive Producer for Heroin’s Grip, a documentary about the opioid crisis in Frederick County. Sean believes that recovery is possible and that people can change and do get better.

Charles A. Jenkins Frederick County Sheriff.

He grew up in Frederick and graduated from Frederick High School in 1974.

Chuck worked in the communications satellite industry for 16 years prior to beginning his law enforcement career in 1990 with the Frederick County

Sheriff’s Office. Upon completing the Harford County Law Enforcement

Training Academy. He worked in the Patrol Division for three years. In 1993 he became a criminal investigator

Chuck investigated many local high profile criminal cases, specializing in homicide and death investigations and crimes against persons

including sex crimes, child abuse and sexual assault. During this time he also served as a hostage and crisis negotiator and instructor for criminal investigations and firearms training.

In November 2006 Chuck was elected to the Office of Sheriff f Frederick County.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is the largest of five full service law enforcement agencies in Frederick County. As Sheriff, he also oversees the Frederick County Adult Detention Center including central booking and the work release program and security for the Frederick County Courthouse, which encompasses the service of all civil process for the county. Sheriff Jenkins is currently serving in his third term as Sheriff.

Walter K. Olson is an author and blogger who writes mostly about legal subjects, including tort reform. Olson is a senior fellow of the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank in Washington, D.C. Formerly, Olson was associated with the Manhattan Institute in New York City.

Mr. Olson has applied to be on the Frederick County Charter Government Revision Committee.

Karen graduated from Franklin Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. with an honors degree in History. She continued her education by receiving a M.A. in American History and an M.B.A. from Columbia University in New York City.

For the next three decades, Karen held a variety of marketing and management positions with increasing levels of responsibility in the financial services industry. Her assignments with Citicorp, American Express, Chase Manhattan Bank, and Capital One gave her experience in retail banking management, product management, market research, new product development, budgeting, and advertising.
