The Jersey PodCats

Maribeth Decker joined Danielle and Elizabeth to talk about living harmoniously with cats and dogs. Maribeth is a pet intuitive so she tunes in with her pets and has many tips on how to keep the household peaceful. She talked about how she introduced new pets into her household, including bringing a dog into a household of cats! Danielle touched on how she rescued a dog from traffic, for the second time, and took him to the police station so the owners could be found. Danielle let a dog into her car! Watch for the kitty parade...3 of Danielle's cats paraded in a straight line down the hall just for fun (did they know they were on camera?) And how does a husband go to the store for catfood and come home with yet another mouth to feed? Listen to find out! Maribeth talked about her animal-related projects, including the Family Animal Communicators Community, which can be found on her website, sacredgrove.com, and her book, Peace in Passing: Comfort for Loving Humans During Animal Transitions The conversation went on, if you ever have a question for Danielle or Elizabeth they'll be happy to answer it. They love cats and people, so question away! Of course we want to hear from you, we love chatting with pet parents, the more cat stories the better! We dare you to top Danielle and Elizabeth with stories about weird and funny cat behavior! We think we've seen it all, but maybe not... Danielle has found a cat she couldn't resist and he's in her home now. How did he do that? With all the cats she sees (she is a cat magnet), how did this one capture her heart? Danielle and Elizabeth chatted about Luffy and his strange honk, as well as the other cats in their lives. Did you know that Thor is very particular, not only about his schedule but also about smells? That makes it really hard to make changes in the house! They talked about cats on the bed and life with cats in general, if you live with cats you'll identify with this episode for sure. BTW, how big is your cat's head? And, are the animals predicting a cold winter? I guess we'll see.The conversation went on, if you ever have a question for Danielle or Elizabeth they'll be happy to answer it. Danielle and Elizabeth started chatting about cats in the rain - do they love it or hate it? Danielle mentioned that she has a new outdoor cat, and they revisited the idea of letting their cats go outside. Then Sarah Curcio was introduced, and she started with how she loves to adopt black animals. It runs in her family! She's also a pet sitter. Her latest cat, Mitzi, came from a hoarding situation, but she's well adjusted and she doesn't even want to go outside. Sarah talked about treating a cat's skin rash by switching its food to gluten free, and how her cat now is sensitive to chicken. Elizabeth talked about Max, and how he didn't have a food allergy, now he's on Zyrtech, Cyclosporine and Dexamethasone for itching. Sarah talked about how her boyfriend trained her cat with cat cookies. Cat cookies? They talked about cats loving treats, then went into how social cats are. Danielle asked everyone to join the FaceBook Community, The Jersey PodCats Community. The conversation went on, if you ever have a question for Danielle or Elizabeth they'll be happy to answer it. They love cats and people, so question away!

Danielle and Elizabeth were joined by Melanie Savage, who hails from Ontario, and works with people in need of social services. She's found herself getting assigned to clients who have cats, which is wonderful because Melanie loves feline friends. She finds a connection to her clients through the cats, because who doesn't love talking about cats?! The discussion centered around people in rough situations finding comfort from their cats, and even forgoing treating their own medical needs so they could take care of their cats. Also how cats are easier and usually less expensive than dogs, but yet are still perceptive to their owner's need for closeness. Melanie talked about services for people who may not be able to care for their cats, such as My Grandfather's Cat, a service in Canada that re-homes pets whose owners have passed. She also brought up Community Veterinary Outreach, which supports those individuals who are experiencing homelessness or the risk of losing their housing who have cats, who have dogs, and they provide pro bono veterinary care and also provide some primary health care at their vet clinics. Great news for Ottawans, Melanie is working on opening her own practice soon to support folks with pet loss.  The conversation went on, if you ever have a question for Danielle or Elizabeth they'll be happy to answer it. Erica Messer of Wolfie's Wish made a return appearance to talk with Danielle and Elizabeth about the power music has to ease anxiety in felines and others. Erica treated everyone to her excellent harp playing in this episode too! Danielle talked about her cat Thor and his anxiety issues and what she did to help him. She's such a great cat mom :) Erica talked about using her cats as test subjects for experiments - no, not that kind! She's testing them to gauge their interest in music. They also discussed the effects of music on all types of animals and humans, and how to fine tune the rhythms and vibrations to be the most pleasing. Erica talked about her YouTube channel with soothing music, it really has beautiful videos of her playing the harp and she's singing in some of them, you can find her on YouTube as @ericamesserharpist Danielle described how Thor was having trouble and they had to shave him, then give him happy pills. It used to be you threw a bowl of dry cat food on the back porch and everyone was happy, but those days have passed and now we treat our cats like our babies! Danielle and Elizabeth were amazed at Ross Hewitt's life story and his experience with cats growing up that led him to create an animated film for kids called Kris the Cat. His Mom was a cat lover, his Dad went along, and they ended up with what some may consider a rather large number of cats, most of whom slept on the bed with them. How many and how did that happen? Listen to find out! And yes, it of course inspired Danielle to consider expanding her cat tribe, we're just waiting for the next one to show up at her door! Kris the Cat was based on an Icelandic folk tale - just a little side note, Danielle and Elizabeth are really glad they weren't women living in that time and place, LOL. Ross also touched on his career as a physician and how science helps us deal with infectious diseases. Then Danielle led him to disclose his first acting gig, and how he wove his love of theater into his life as a physician. And his love of cats, of course! The group discussed creativity and people's perception and stories about cats. The conversation went on, if you ever have a question for Danielle or Elizabeth they'll be happy to answer it. Danielle leapt right in with her first question for Sylvie: Why do you love cats? Sylvie responded with a lot of wisdom about cats, like their purpose and what they really want from us. Sylvie went on to describe the different cat archetypes, it was fascinating. She described what archetype Max is, then she went on to classify Danielle's cats. And she answered the question, 'what is a cat's number one wish?' Listen to find out! Sylvie discussed her book (on Amazon) - 'Your Cat is Your Guide: How your Cat helps you with your Spiritual Awakening'. If you go to her website, you can see that she's a Cat Whisperer & Cat Expert, Author, Intuitive Healer, Spiritual Teacher & Awakening Coach. She can help you connect with your cat. Danielle and Elizabeth chatted with Amelia about living with cats, and how even though many people think cats are aloof, our cats miss us and hang out with us. Amelia talked about her work managing the networking group Mosaic, and her other work as a senior marketing director for tech firms. So how much does Amelia love cats? Is a cat tattoo any indication? But for a long time Amelia didn't have the luxury of being able to live with cats. Now that she does, she's even thinking of getting, GASP, a puppy! The trio talked about how they acquired their cats and ways to keep a house clean with cats. Trimming their claws is important and cat fur doesn't have to be the kiss of death, really! Danielle talked Tommy's Cats Rescue and how they work with people to take care of stray cats. And of course Elizabeth gave an update on Max, he's doing well, thank goodness. The conversation went on, if you ever have a question for Danielle or Elizabeth they'll be happy to answer it. They love cats and people, so question away! Danielle and Elizabeth caught up after a few weeks of not recording. Danielle talked about her cruise to Alaska, relaxing through Glacier Bay, seeing wildlife, but NOT cats! And how nice it was not to see stray cats everywhere since New Jersey is swamped with them right now. Tommy's Cats Rescue can barely keep up! She also talked about a scenic train ride and how scary the little rinky dinky train thingy was... They talked about cat videos on the Jersey PodCats Facebook page. Any cat lover can become a member, they're building a community. Just contact them about joining the group. Elizabeth talked about celebrating her birthday with her family in NYC, and the amazing Small is Beautiful Miniature Art gallery. She also had High Tea, and as an avid tea drinker she was in High Heaven! There was a catch up on Max's health and the other cats and vet visits - Lily had turned into a stegosaurus kitty, and also a discussion on how to help stray cats that may be found. Also the importance of spay and neuter and inside v. outside cats. They revealed a New Jersey secret, a trail in the woods with little fairy houses along the way.  Danielle revealed how many cat photos she has on her phone, and well... The conversation went on, if you ever have a question for Danielle or Elizabeth they'll be happy to answer it.
