The Jersey PodCats episodes

  • 24 Dr Fred Moss about all voices are heard and all matter

Danielle and Elizabeth rearranged things a little with this episode and dove right into interviewing their guest, Dr. Fred of Welcome to Humanity, who is on his '13th, 14th and 15th cats' right now, Valentino, Despacito, and Winston.

Dr. Fred shared Welcome to Humanity, which has a mission to fulfill an impossible promise that by 2030 each and every person will know that their voice can be heard and that who they are and what they do matters. He went on to talk about the siamese cats he had growing up and the interesting names they gave them, and to discuss the cats he has now, and especially how his Russian Blue, Valentino, is spraying in the house even though he's been neutered. If any listeners know how to solve this problem, we want to hear from you! Danielle talked about Thor's issues and Elizabeth mentioned that the vet told her to use unscented cat litter to keep Mercutio from sneezing. The conversation also touched on cats being embarrassed, funny but true!

The group went on to talk about how cats teach us to live in the moment and help keep us centered, then into cat behaviors. Dr. Fred talked about how he's rebranding to DrFred360.com but staying focused on his impossible promise. Elizabeth and Danielle went on to give updates about their fur babies, and Danielle talked about traveling and dropping her phone into something gross, you just have to listen!

The conversation went on, if you ever have a question for Danielle or Elizabeth they'll be happy to answer it. They love cats and people, so question away!  Of course we want to hear from you, we love chatting with pet parents, the more cat stories the better! We dare you to top Danielle and Elizabeth with stories about weird cat behavior! We think we've seen it all, but maybe not... • 23 Erica Messer Wolfie's Wish and it’s Ok to Grieve for Your Pets

Cats!  Elizabeth and Danielle started the show by talking about their cats, Max came up and the treatment that finally worked to stop him from scratching all the fur off of his face, a Zyrtec pill a day.  They went on to talk about their cats, then introduced Erica Messer with Wolfie's wish.  Erica started Wolfie's Wish when she was grieving over the sudden death of her one year old cat Wolfgang.  You can find it at https://wolfieswish.com/.

Wolfie's Wish is a website with sympathy and grieving cards and pet burial products, among other things.  Everyone went on to discuss how it's natural to grieve a pet but some people feel like they really can't talk about it.

They also talked about communicating with animals, and how Elizabeth worked with Julie Hirt to communicate with Max about his allergies, and how some people communicate with their deceased animals. Then the conversation segued to bringing new cats into your life, and how the deceased cat will allow you to love a new cat, so you can grieve but still bring new joy into your life.

From there the show meandered into cats' noses, and how they wake us up, and....well, you just have to listen!

Danielle talked about Tommy's Cats Rescue and the deluge of new kittens being born who will need homes soon, and what they do with their donations.

Of course we want to hear from you!  We love chatting with pet parents, the more cat stories the better, we dare you to top Danielle and Elizabeth with stories about weird cat behavior - we think we've seen it all, but maybe not...

  • 22 Renata Rasp Fiber Art and Reuniting with her Cat that went missing during an out of state move!

Cats!  Renata Rasp joins Danielle Woolley and Elizabeth Gearhart to talk about her cats and her fiber business using wool shorn from sheep.  Of course Elizabeth gave a Max update, the Zyrtec is still working for him, along with a couple of other meds.

Danielle had big news!!  She was featured in Grit and Goals magazine, you go girl!

Elizabeth talked about the radio show she produces with her husband in NYC, and about her lovely Mother's Day and of course talked about the food.  Danielle chimed in with how much food is discussed by them and how much fun it is to talk about!

Renata joined the discussion and mentioned being retired.  Danielle and Elizabeth disagreed with her on that when they heard about everything she's doing, including watching her grandchild 5 days a week.  She went on to talk about her cats and moving them from New Jersey to South Carolina.

Have you ever had a cat disappear?  Renata's cat Cole really didn't want to move and disappeared into thin air.  Did he get lost outside or did he find a REALLY good hiding place inside the house?  They looked and looked, their friends looked, did they ever find him?  Listen to fIns out the rest.

  • 21 Danielle and Elizabeth Checking In

Episode 21 Danielle and Elizabeth getting caught up on all things cats and daily life.

In case you hadn't noticed, Danielle and Elizabeth love cats!  Danielle lives with 4 cats and Elizabeth with 3 (there are a couple of husbands in there too, who have learned to deal with it.)  Elizabeth started with an update on Max, who she got as a kitten and who was plagued by itchiness, so much so that he scratched all of the fur off of his face, throat, and ears.  Elizabeth took him to four different vets and many vet visits before finding a treatment that worked.  She and Danielle started the podcast to help others in this situation.

What finally worked for Max was Zyrtec plus anti-itch meds.  Right now he's taking Zyrtec daily and being weaned off of a steroid while taking another medication for skin allergies.  He's a little plump from the steroid but hopefully exercise will burn that off!   He has turned into a bit of a holy terror, he's still very young and energetic.

It was Danielle's birthday on May 4th, her cat Tony did a special hat trick for her!

The discussion turned to indoor and outdoor cats, the risks and the rewards for the cats.
Elizabeth talked about how Max wakes her up, he's training her to be on his schedule using a very effective method...groan.

Danielle talked about Tony getting unhappy and causes of that.  Cats can be very particular!

Elizabeth talked about how her cat Mercutio (Cushi) is sneezing and congested, and the vet not only prescribed meds but also recommended that she switch the cat litter to unscented litter, as cats' sense of smell is highly developed.

Elizabeth talked about the radio show she co-hosts with her husband Richard called Passage to Profit that they record in the iHeart studios in Manhattan.  Richard was ill so she had to go by herself this week and she got stranded in NY for hours because the trains quit running. Of course the station is right by Macy's, so she found good use for the time.  There's a silver lining to every cloud.

Danielle talked about NY some, then about cats in general, and how Jared Leto showed up in a cat costume at the Met Gala.  A character after their own hearts...

And of course Tommy's Cat Rescue came up!

  • 20 Lori Saitz 30 day traveling Sabbatical with 19yr old cat Panther

Episode 20 with Lori Saitz, a 30 Day Traveling Sabbatical with her 19 year old cat Panther.

This is the podcast all about cats!  Danielle started by showing off her new glasses from SPEX Eyewear, where 100% of the proceeds go to cat rescue and animal rescue.  She looked adorable, as always.  The conversation turned to health, human health as well as cat health, then into what fun things Danielle and Elizabeth have done lately.

The conversation then went into Lori's travels with her 19 year old cat Panther, and the photo she sent of herself and Panther in the car.  She talked about the fun of smuggling cats into hotels, then the trio chatted about their cats and their love of cats.  The question came up of "what do you do when you have to travel but the cat can't come with you?"

And of course Max came up, between anti-itch meds and Zyrtec his itching has calmed way down, so it's time to get a photo of him all dressed up!  It's hard to decide which virtual outfit to use...

Danielle would photoshop Loki and Thor and Tony and Derek into outfits befitting their names. Loki and Thor are gods and Tony and Derek are Ben Stiller characters, LOL.  Since everyone on the show had adopted rescued cats, of course cat rescue and cat behaviors were discussed.

Lori talked about her business Zen Rabbit, and her podcast, Fine is a Four Letter Word.  Are you really fine, or is it just something we say to other people?  How are things really?  And how can you go from chaos to peace in your life?  Somehow the conversation veered to ice cream and back to cats and, well, you just have to hear it for yourself!

Of course we want to hear from you, we love chatting with pet parents, the more cat stories the better!  We dare you to top Danielle and Elizabeth with stories about weird cat behavior!  We think we've seen it all, but maybe not...

  • 19 Heidi Rome of Moms Spectrum Oasis, on communicating with non-verbal kids and cats

Danielle started the episode by mentioning Heidi Rome, who has an autistic son and provides loving support to other mothers in her position.  Elizabeth then gave a Max update, the kitten who kept scratching all the fur off of his face and neck.  Elizabeth spent months looking for a cure or at least medication to manage his condition, and thank goodness she finally found a solution for poor little Max.  He has a full face and neck of fur now and is raising havoc around the house.

One thing that helped Elizabeth through the tough times was remembering the message that Heidi gives to all moms going through difficult conditions with their children (because our cats are second only to our children!)  It's the title of her book, "You Just Have to Love Me: Mothering Instructions From My Autistic Child".

The conversation revolved around how parents think they're not good enough for their kids (or cats) but there's no such thing as the perfect parent and you can't control everything, even if you want to!  The similarities between cats and autistic kids, especially with respect to communication, were discussed.  And of course everyone told a variety of funny, poignant, as well as weird stories about their fur babies.

  • 18 Team Cat vs Team Dog with Jenny Dedes, Robin Greubel, and Raymond Osterbye

Are you a cat person or a dog person?  What are the pros and cons?  Danielle and Elizabeth chat with team cat and team dog to hash it out.   With Robin (from K9Sensus) and Jenny (from Chicago Pet Rescue) on the dog team it was a tough match-up, but Danielle and Raymond (from Tommy's Cats) on the cat team held their own!

Danielle connected to Robin through a women's community called FemCity, and she met Raymond when he showed her how to trap stray and abandoned cats and kittens  and shared tips about cat rescue.   Elizabeth met Jenny through her work with radio, Jenny helped with the national syndication of the Passage to Profit Show that Elizabeth co-hosts with her husband Richard.

The discussion stayed fairly civil for a while - it went from healing help from cats v dogs to playing opportunities, and many advantages in between.  It got a little heated when the topic of odors came up - wet dog or cat box?  We plugged our noses for that one!

So, which is the better pet, a cat or a dog?  Who won?  Listen to find out!

  • 17 Christy Chand 4 cats a special needs dog and SPEX Eyewear Inc

Danielle and Elizabeth chatted a bit about cats and how Max is a seasoned traveler to the vet, then jumped into the interview with Christy Chand, who has SPEX eyewear, which makes prescription and reading glasses.  One of the great things about SPEX is that 100% of the profits go to organizations that help animals!  Christy has 4 cats and a dog and lives in Fresno, CA.  You can find Christy's glasses at https://spexeyewearinc.com/.

Danielle chatted about her need for great eyeglasses and how Christy's company really fulfills that need.  Then she asked Christy how she went from being animal-less to 4 cats and a dog.  Christy didn't do this alone, her husband was just as involved to the point where he found their 3rd cat on Instagram and number four just naturally followed. We love it when a couple is on the same page with going all-in to the animal world!  But how did a dog get thrown into this mix and how does he deal with that gang of cats?  A special needs dog at that.  Listen to find out!  Hint: Linus was good at teaching Freddy a lesson or two...

The chat continued about cats and rescues and then went into the eyewear business and Christy's husband's role in helping her fulfill this dream, and all the wonderful things Christy is able to do to help animals with the profit and donations.

Check out the gallery on Christy's website for photos of real people wearing the glasses (and some pet photos too).  If you buy SPEX from her website you can designate where your donation goes AND have a great pair of eyeglasses!

  • 16 Alicia Morrissey and Traveling with her cat Lakshmi

The cat chatting continues!  Danielle and Elizabeth started the episode with a few burning questions, such as: can cats have Yelp reviews?  And how is Max the cat by the way?  Alicia Morrissey was the guest and and shared stories about her cat's strange behaviors.

Elizabeth talked about the Seahorse farm in Hawaii on the big island, where you can have a seahorse wrap its tail around your finger.  Danielle went on to talk about her travels, where she confirmed that she is the ultimate cat magnet, even in Greece!

Alicia talked about how her cat Lakshmi found her as a kitten and glued herself to Alicia.  Lakshmi even travels with Alicia when she takes longer trips, and the cat can't stand it when Alicia leaves her alone, yowling when she's in the shower, what's that all about?!  (spoiler alert - Alicia showers everyday anyway). Alicia did manage to harness-train her so they can go outside together.  Thank goodness!   Alicia named her Lakshmi after the Hindu Goddess of Abundance.

The chat went on to various cat topics and Lakshmi showed up for a pic!

  • Kindness and love for cats can be contagious with William Derella

The cat talk continues with The Jersey Podcats podcast hosts Danielle Woolley and Elizabeth Gearhart and guest William Derella.  This episode addresses the question: Can a man be converted into a cat lover if he's never wanted a cat?

William Derella answers that question and more, such as: "I have 4 kids, why do I need a cat?"  It took time but William eventually found out why and he takes us on his journey from no cats to "I have to have a cat (or two)!" And he still felt like that even after the cat tried to drive the car home from the vet. He even created them their own Instagram account.

William also has a story about Meals on Wheels (with a twist) and a heart-warming story about a generous cashier at Petco.   We couldn't let him go without asking about some of the artists whose careers he managed, very impressive!

It was a fun chat amongst true cat lovers :) You can follow his soccer loving cats on Instagram too!  https://instagram.com/lion_elmessi21
