Sometimes we find ourselves in this learning loop or “Analysis Paralysis” Robert T. Kiyosaki. Don’t fall into the trap of constantly collecting information. At some point you need to stop collecting and start implementing. Implementation is the practical application of information. This is the only way to “test” what you’ve gathered and see if it works. These are the 2 components of learning. You need both to TRULY LEARN! Don’t shortchange yourself by only focusing or doing one aspect of the learning process! GO OUT AND IMPLEMENT MORE!!

This is something I’ve thought a LOT about over the years! I had to know WHY I “need to make art.” It’s interesting to me, that like all of you, there are some disciplines I enjoy more than others. It has been fun to analyze this over the last 7 years or so, to really dissect why I’ve landed on jewelry and love it so much! My big take away is my love of making art is much more mental than I EVER thought! How about you?

There is something to be said about, fearing the unknown. This is something that we should all see and be cognizant of… that doesn’t mean we should give it ANY MORE POWER than acknowledgment. There are 2 sides to that coin! There’s the side of “What it if DOESN’T work?” this is where most people focus. Then there is side of “What if it DOES work?” This is where we as artists, and business owners SHOULD BE FOCUSING!!

We all have people that copy us, our work, ideas, and even our style. We need to stop feeling slighted when we find these people in our lives. The truth is as artists we kind of want people to be looking at what we’re doing and trying similar things. At least for me that’s what keeps me moving forward and progressing. Modeling is doing the “things” other people do that work. It’s the basis to all learning. Copying is ripping off ideas and skills, Modeling is seeing someone’s skills you admire or want to acquire, then going out and also learning those skill, so you can use them in your own life or work. STOP comparing yourself to others! This makes no sense for so many reasons! The most notable is, you are looking at something, people, processes, and experiences that you have no frame of reference to. Instead of getting down based on a comparison use that same thing to give you the push to try, ask and learn how to do it for yourself! Most of the time we feel bad about ourselves when we should just ask this question of that person: “HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!” it is amazing how fare this this question will get you in life!

If you’ve ever felt that you’re not the one in control of your art, this episode will help you! Over the past 10+ years I have had periods where I felt that my art and jewelry was up for committee. This has normally come in the form of needing or, feeling that I needed to, create jewelry for customers that I didn’t really want to make. At these points in my career I felt that I was not in control of what I was making. I hated feeling that way! Mainly because I was still putting, all I had, in the piece but hating every minute. It wasn’t until I heard a stage presentation from Tom Bilyeu the host of “Impact Theory,” that I realized why I’m setting out to do what I’m doing right now; building my business so I can create the art I want to make, how I want to make it, and sell it the way I want. I for one am tired of having all the skills and feelling like I need to beg for the privilege to make terribly designed jewelry.
