Longtime New Jersey 101.5 morning host Jim Gearhart had a "singular relationship" with former New Jersey 101.5 host Craig Carton, recently arrest on federal fraud charges.

"Singular" is a kind word. Jim's not foul-mouthed enough to use the words he'd really like to.

Jim couldn't have been happier the day in 2007 Judi Franco told him Carton was leaving, because "this guy is a cancer on the radio station," Jim recalls in the latest installment of the Jim Gearhart podcast.

"To me, there's a great deal of tragedy in both of these, because both had so much promise," Jim Gearhart says in the latest installment of the Jim Gearhart Show podcast.

"Two very large blips on the radar of promise, both with with public appeal, a touch of glamour and what appeared to be clear sailing into historic achievements."

The Hindenburg was brought down by explosive gas and an electrical storm. Christie? By his "overweening ambition," Jim says.

And he mourns the loss of Christie's potential. He admired Chris Christie in the early days. All that leadership skill. All that political talent.

But there's no escaping the sense that Christie abandoned the people of New Jersey to chase the presidency or national offic. And "Hell hath no fury like a New Jersey electorate scorned," Jim says.

You've all heard about the controversy over Confederate monuments. Maybe even the controversy over a New Jersey assemblyman posing for a picture with a Confederate flag.

But Jim Gearhart says if you really want nutty signs of far-left political correctness, look no further than the nation's college campuses. How about across the river in Philadelphia, where Bryn Mawr College has decided to put a moratorium on using one of its founders' names to refer to a library and large hall that both carry her name — because she held racist views.

Or how about on the other side of the country, where the University of Southern Californian's Trojan mascot is coming under scrutiny for having a horse almost the same name as the horse that Confederate General Robert E. Lee rode.

Jim Gearhart wouldn't be surprised if pesticides are making people dumber. There's no doubt external influences can wreak havoc on us. Anyone who remembers New Jersey's history with MTBE can attest to that.
