This segment is about when Jody hits bottom with the drug world, spending time in Compton, crackhouses, and gang bangers.  

Back in the 80's, criminal activity was divided up into "turf" sections through phone area codes.  The reason was because phone lines to land lines were done with wires.  This meant calls within the same area code weren't traceable.  Not easily anyway.  So Alex covered the 310 Beverly Hills region, Cheri, the Hollywood Madam later dubbed the "Death Row Madam" had the 213 area code as her turf, and Jody, the "High Tech Madam", managed the 818 area of the San Fernando Valley.  Every week or so the ladies would do lunch to discuss business and also give each other "bad numbers"  Serial killers were on the rise in LA at this time, and more and more women started going missing, especially prostitutes.  

Cocaine had started flowing through the country, with California being its main point of origin.  Only the gangs being blamed for the drug epidemic weren't the ones flying the planes bringing all that coke into the country - the CIA was.  Hear how the drug rose to prominence, also with a little marketing help from the CIA as well.  Disco's were where the drugs flowed, with the main ones were owned by Eddie Nash.  Here Jody tells us about the crazy days of cocaine.  

When Jody met Alex, a woman dubbed "The Beverly Hills Madam", she also met a Beverly Hills officer who told her the hotel had a special type of security which had to "protect it's guests".  Back then, the hotel was owned by Ivan Boesky, and Sheik Shamsuddin Abdullah al Fassi, along with  his son Mohammed.  al Fassis' was the royal in-law and patron, the former Saudi deputy minister of defense and aviation, to Prince Turki ibn Abdel Aziz.  This man was responsible for buying the medical supplies that went to three of the military hospitals back in this time in Saudi Arabia.  He also loved expensive booze and women.  Special "guests" at the Beverly Hills Hotel required "special attention" and Jody was enlisted to provide these men, and their friends with "entertainment".  Besides, the coke didn't get from Compton to Beverly Hills in a pimp's Cadillac.  High end parties required high end girls with high end party favors.  But more went on there than meets the eye.  

Los Angeles in the 70's was the center of the new age movement.  Uri Geller was bending spoons, Jeanne Dixon was making predictions, Linda Goodman had just come out with "Sun Signs" (the first mainstream book on astrology), Kenny Kingston was conjuring up Marilyn Monroe's spirit every Halloween at the Roosevelt Hotel, and the list went on.  This was also the center of where UCLA had a whole paranormal research department where they really were "staring at goats" and otherwise trying to find out whether or not psychic talents could be used for cold war purposes in the fight against Russia.  Jody was at the heart of it all, even down to going UFO hunting up in Topanga Canyon.  

How young is too young to be taught con artistry?  

Valley West was the first, and only, blues club in Tarzana, California.  Seeking to be "normal", Jody goes to interview for a cocktail waitress job there.   Richard Pryor has spoken openly about his mother being a prostitute in his grandmother's brothel.  This family of generational pimps had to launder their money somewhere, and the club was a perfect front for their prostitution and drug racket.  This is when the "family" set their sites on turning Jody out alright, but not as a prostitute.  They wanted her to be a madam.   Welcome to the club.
