On the show tonight, Joe admits that he’s a little out of sorts tonight. He couldn’t find his headphones, he didn’t finish dinner, and everything unraveled behind the scenes leading to the start of the show. It was just one of those days.
But Joe got down to the business. Joe started with some Phillies talk. Phillies are in Chicago, but he did see that the Chicagoland area is being affected by the Canadian wildfires. Don’t be surprised if there’s a “smoke out” as Joe calls it, but the decision to postpone, if it happens, is up to the MLB Commissioner and the players union.
Joe thinks he will need to submit a drug test, as he sides with Justin Verlander of the New York Mets who thinks some discretion should have been given when the Mets catcher may have gotten to the plate late for the next half inning. Joe thinks sometimes umpire discretion should be used over letter of the law in a situation like this.
Alek Manoah made his first appearance in the Florida Complex League (formerly the Florida Rookie League), and it was not good. He gave up 11 earned runs on 2 2/3 innings. Joe thinks if there’s a pattern, then Blue Jays should be worried, but I wouldn’t get worried about one game, as Joe wonders if maybe the Yankee rookies were amped up because they might have known who Alek Manoah was.
Then Joe reviewed the race that he gave a pick out on last Thursday’s show, which was the Ohio Derby at Thistledown. Joe had a good day overall, but did not give out the winner as Kentucky Derby runnerup won the race easily on Saturday, but unfortunately, Two Phil’s ended up with an injured ankle and will be out at least for this year, and Joe thinks his career on the race track is over too. If the ankle needs surgery, let’s worry about quality of life and into the breeding shed. Joe also mentioned that Two Phil’s jockey Jareth Loveberry was not riding Saturday, because he was injured earlier in the week in a race at Canterbury Park.
The NHL season may have just ended, but Joe mentioned next season’s schedule is out, and pointed out some of the main points of the schedule, like VGK’s home opener, the outdoor games, and some international games, including preseason games in Australia, and regular season games in Sweden. If you’re an NBA fan, Joe thinks that schedule will be out soon, because we start to get an idea when some arenas will be available for NBA teams in those arenas that have both an NHL and NBA team.
There was a Deion Sanders update, as Joe mentioned that Coach Prime had surgery to fix blood clot issues in his leg.
A strange but interesting track and field story from Poland caught Joe’s eye. Joe doesn’t know how the track and field league works, but it appears there is promotion and relegation. Belgium had to use a shot putter to run a 100 meter hurdles race to get the points to keep the Belgium track team from being DQed and removed from Division 1.
Finally, Joe went on a controlled rant to end the show. Joe got blocked by someone who went into his DMs on Twitter, didn’t like that he retweeted something this person shared on Twitter. Joe thought the message was very odd, because it wasn’t like there was a conversation over the months as there was one message from January, and the previous was from way back in 2016. Joe understands content creation and social media, and what this guy did was the equivalent of a bum looking for a handout with his YouTube page. Joe mentions that a retweet is an endorsement, and unlike this guy who appears to be a full-time content creator, there are much more important things in life that this guy doesn’t quite understand. There much more important things to worry about than someone following you on YouTube, which is why Joe is never worried about his numbers.
