Chapter 1:
-Michael Gellar, who previously ran as an NPA candidate in Vancouver, says it's the people in the MIDDLE of the alphabet who are actually affected negatively by the alphabetical listing.
Chapter 2:
-There is a pet shop that is giving its employees days off when they adopt/purchase a new dog or cat. Has the world gone mad?
Chapter 3:
-Ontario will choose its new leader today, and the NDP and Progressive Conservatives appear to be neck-and-neck after Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne admitted she can’t win.
Chapter 4:
-Does paid leave to be with your new pet sound reasonable?! Musti Group, the largest pet supply chain in the Nordics, is offering employees three days paid leave to be with their new puppy or kitten. They’re calling it “pawternity leave.”
Chapter 5:
-Trudeau is making the media rounds to defend the Kinder Morgan pipeline purchase. And tomorrow he squares off against Donald Trump in Quebec over the trade war. This is test of Trudeau's toughness. The Province newspaper's Michael Smyth is here with his take on the day's headlines.
Chapter 6:
-Harm reduction and response will be top of the agenda tomorrow when doctors, police, and drug experts meet for the third annual Overdose Action Exchange - collaboratively brainstorming solutions to the overdose crisis in BC. Dr. Tyndall is a key part of the overdose and harm reduction response in BC.
Chapter 7:
-Next Friday (15th June), we’re being encouraged to wear plaid in support of Canadian men with prostate cancer. Eric McCormack - the star of Will & Grace and Travellers - says the campaign is not only about supporting men who have prostate cancer, but also raising awareness about the importance of men being proactive about their health and getting checked. Eric’s father beat prostate cancer in the 90s - but it returned and he died around ten years ago.
Chapter 8:
-Lebron James is going to be a free agent after this season and there are several opportunities and decisions he may have to make. It could even turn into an East vs West rivalry.
Chapter 9:
-We’ve become familiar with the political form that is populism by witnessing what has been having in Britain, the United States, and elsewhere in the western world. We’re now seeing populism in the Ontario election. Should we fear the rise of populism in Canada?
Chapter 10:
-Dan Bui Shun Gin was arrested at River Rock Casino in Richmond late last month, a few days after arriving in BC. It’s alleged he was involved in a money laundering scheme through Vancouver International Airport - and is also accused of laundering $855 million through Australian casinos.
Chapter 11:
-Canada has slapped tariffs on a number of imported products from the United States, including maple syrup. The province of Quebec produces 72% of the world’s maple syrup, so you may expect that they would be welcoming any moves that make US maple syrup products less competitive.
Chapter 12:
-A BC HR company has launched a new workplace certification program - in a bid to help businesses create a culture that encourages employee engagement and empowerment, work-life integration and transparency.
