Yesterday, Coquitlam mayor Richard Stewart joined us for Mayors Day where he shared a very personal story. His daughter suffered a mental health crisis in 2012 and was admitted to hospital. But during the family’s journey through the health system - they discovered there are severe gaps in mental health treatment.

Chapter 1:  What’s in the news with Gord MacDonald

-An interesting story about Canadian prisons this morning.  There are prisons in Canada that’s sole purpose is to house soldiers who break the law, but, there aren’t many soldiers in these prisons so the workers and guards at the prison have a lot of down time.

Chapter 2:

-A NY judge has ruled that a 30-year old man must move out of his parents house.  The family said it was time for their son to move on but the son didn’t want to leave the house.

Chapter 3:

-Metro Vancouver will soon have a better idea about a potential road pricing scheme for the region, with the final report from an independent commission into mobility pricing due this week.  The report will be unveiled at TransLink Mayors’ Council meeting on Thursday. The commission was looking at two mobility pricing models: congestion point charges, which could result in tolls on bridges and other key choke points, and distance-based charges which would vary by time and location.

-The Office of the Alberta Premier has issued an important clarification regarding the friendship status of the Premier of B.C.  It turns out that Rachel Notley and John Horgan are NOT friends. The Vancouver Sun's Vaughn Palmer is here with his take on the day's headlines.

-In yet another twist in the pipeline saga, Attorney General David Eby has filed a lawsuit against Alberta’s “turn off the taps” legislation, following through with a promise to take legal action.

-In the wake of another mass shooting at a US school and the NRA’s continued militant stand against gun control we wondered how the NRA has become so powerful. Perhaps because It spends more on influencing politics than any other non profit group in the US, according to the Centre for Responsive Politics.

-The Winnipeg Jets had an impressive season and had a good chance at making the Stanley Cup finals, but, they blew it.  Now people are asking whether next year will be the year for the Jets.
