Chapter 1:

-A motion to ‘serve justice’ to returning ISIS fighters has passed in the House.  The motion, introduced by Conservative MP Michelle Rempel in the House of Commons passed 280-1, with the Liberals reluctantly supporting it despite having some concerns about its content.

Chapter 2:

-How viable is Surrey mayor-elect Doug McCallum’s plan to rip up the contract with the RCMP, and instal a municipal police force? Kash Heed says it’ll take a lot of wading through bureaucratic red tape, take at least four years, and use up a lot of taxpayer money which could be better spent elsewhere.

Chapter 3:

-Today in Nanaimo, John Horgan will make an announcement regarding the upcoming vacancy in the Nanaimo constituency. Will he call a by-election in the constituency soon to be left vacant by NDP MP Leonard Krog.

Chapter 4:

-The provinces that have failed to come up with a climate plan of their own (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, New Brunswick) will now come under a federally imposed carbon tax, as announced by PM Justin Trudeau yesterday.

Premier John Horgan has scheduled a news conference in Nanaimo for this morning where he is set to make a "significant announcement" about the crucial Nanaimo byelection, a byelection in which the NDP's hold on power will be on the line.  The Province newspaper's Michael Smyth is here with his take on the day's headlines.

Chapter 1:

-A Saudi dissident living in Canada says he believes the people who ordered the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi were also after him.  Omar Abdulaziz says Saudi operatives visited Montreal in May in an effort to lure him back to the Kingdom. This spring, two representatives of the Saudi government visited Montreal to meet Abdulaziz. One of his brothers was brought along as well to apply pressure.

Chapter 2:

-The Trudeau government will fund SkyTrain in Surrey, if that’s what the city and region and province decide, according to Fleetwood-Port Kells Liberal MP Ken Hardie.  Surrey mayor-elect Doug McCallum has been clear from the start — he will cancel light rail transit (LRT) on his first day in office and start building SkyTrain to Langley.  But up until today, we did not know if the federal government would be willing to switch the $1.12 billion it has already committed to LRT, over to SkyTrain. Hardie says the answer is yes.

Chapter 3:

-Former career firefighter and independent Mike Hurley beat out five time Burnaby mayor Derek Corrigan. He tells us his plans for Burnaby, including how he plans on keeping his promises around demovictions and affordable housing.

Chapter 4:

-As the dust settles on the civic election results, thoughts now are looking to the future and the changes that could be in store for our region. In Surrey, the LRT vs SkyTrain debate has been blown wide open with the election of Doug McCallum, who’s pro-SkyTrain. While in Vancouver, how keen will those five NPA councillors be to stop the plans of Mayor-Elect, Kennedy Stewart?

The Pro-Rep Referendum is turning nasty already, with official complaints of campaign wrongdoing and rule-breaking against the B.C. Liberals and former Liberal MLA Judi Tyabji.  The Province newspaper's Michael Smyth is here with his take on the day's headlines.

Chapter 1:

-The Liberals and Conservatives are virtually neck-and-neck, according to exclusive IPSOS polling done for Global News, one year out from the federal election.

-Kennedy Stewart has become the first independent to be elected mayor of Vancouver in more than 30 years. The former NDP MP beat out the NPA’s Ken Sim by around a-thousand votes.

Chapter 3:

-Trudeau’s Liberals have written off a $2.6 billion dollar loan to the auto sector, that was quickly scraped together to save Chrysler during the global economic meltdown back in 2009. The revelation was buried in papers tabled in parliament on Friday. Don’t we deserve to know about this one of the largest ever taxpayer funded bailouts?
