Life is full of challenges. We all experience them, The difference is how we face them. If you can realise this then you can start to have some power over how you react and respond.
In this conversation with leadership coach, therapist and mediator Mari Williams we discuss what it is to be positive and keep on track, even when crap things happen.
Mari works with senior executives and business owners to develop strong, clarity driven leadership skills. How I was really drawn to connect with her is that she does this through clearing up and removing any old behaviours or beliefs and stuck points you that are holding you back such as, Imposter Syndrome, fear of failure, lack of confidence, stress etc. Themes that come up so often for men in their role as Dad.

Have you ever wondered if you were doing the right job? Many of us have that nagging feeling but fail to do something about it.
Not Nic Askew.
This conversation is with a great man I have known since the early 2000's. At the time I met Nic he had just done his first video interview with family friend and Olympian Roger Black. He'd decided to quit his job and do more videos. That was the only plan. He had no idea where it was going to take him. And baring in mind this was pre-YouTube it was a pretty far out idea.
After adventures in the Amazon and the Congo, Nic found himself not only back in London but the MD of a business that he knew he should not be in charge of.
These are defining moments. In the stress and concern of what to do we may not always notice what our instincts are telling us. Nic however has always found himself in tune with his inner voice and an awareness for what his surroundings are telling him.
You might think that a film producer that has now worked all over the World and is renowned for his unique style would have some kind of film making background. This was not the case with Nic.
Frustrated and concerned about his high powered job Nic felt - or heard - a compelling voice telling him to pick up a camera and start filming. Never could he had known what it would lead to.
Many Dads have such ideas, and hear such messages but never follow them through. With financial responsibilities and families to look after it is not a surprise. The problem with not following your heart though is that mentally and physically the stress of wondering endlessly if you should have gone for it is as risky as actually doing it.
We get one life. Our happiness is our choice. In my life I know there have been moments where I avoided making a choice - moving to Chicago and qualifying as a personal trainer are two that come to mind.
"Don't die with your music inside you"
That doesn't mean it is an easy decision. Doing it with the right advice and support is your best chance of success. Also sometimes a little push is all you needed. Success and happiness are always on the other side of a decision.
Get yourself into Team Super Dad and get all of this and more. It is why we are here.

But few of us actually maintain our network, let alone benefit from it.
Seems crazy in a World of digital communication and social media that we would be talking about how to stay connected. The reality is though that many of us do not keep in contact with people from our past. Blimey, some of us barely speak to the important people in our lives right now!
It is important though. Whether it is an email, phone call, birthday or anniversary message, or even a good old Christmas card, the value of staying connected to people will constantly reward you.
Of course it takes some effort but it soon becomes a routine. A few minutes each day on social media, a personal text message or phone call on their birthday. People appreciate it and the more you do it the more normal it becomes.
Many of my friends know that I stay in contact with lots of randoms from the past. Bizarely they ask me how those people are rather than call them themselves. That's ok though. I get to be the person others come to.
When you are interested in other people they cannot but help be interested in you. Well....most of them!
It's basic conversation. It goes back and forth; when you ask "How are you?" they ask you back. Don't then jump straight into what you are doing and what you want. It doesn't work.
You need to ask how they are, ask what they are working on, and ask if there is anything you can do to help them with that.
This goes for networking also. If you want to be effective at networking events then these are the three questions to constantly repeat. It also gives you the perfect out if you get stuck talking to someone for too long "well thanks for sharing about your latest project. I'll get back to you with some introductions."
Your contacts are generally going to be happy to hear from you. Think how you would feel if you heard from them. Would you ignore them or find it weird? I doubt it.
The same goes if they ask you a favour. If it is something simple like some introductions or agreeing to share a social media post, then that is a very easy. You would do it for them.
Most importantly when you need something more from someone then you have the power of your network to turn to. Whether it is advice, support or involvement in a project, the power of a connected network is never going to be a bad thing.
Reach out to your network. Update your contacts and stay connected.

This is The Wrap Up where we celebrate all that is happening in your life. Too often we suffer the struggles and forget all the good bits.
It is a habit and when we celebrate it all - good and bad - we get to feel good, we vibrate on a higher level and we attract more of the good stuff. Truth!

What does your super hero Dad say about you? When you think about super hero stories there is always a battle between the man in the suit and the man on the street.
Not weak, confused and lost.
Instead confident, adventurous and on a mission.
My mission in Team Super Dad is for you to be both those people.
We all have a vision of where we want to get to.
The challenge is not making it happen.
The challenge is who you need to be to make it happen.
Have a look in the mirror. How far off are you having the life you want or truly being the Dad you want to be?
With the right system and encouragement you can be Tony Stark and Iron Man.
You can be the Super Dad you want to be, with the Super Dad life you want to create.

Recapping on your week is as important as planning your week. Just a little reflection to celebrate the good bits and not get hung up on the rest. As I recorded this I was ready to go out for the evening with an awesome women I've recently been introduced to. Now that is something to celebrate!
Another week goes into the can. Freakishly quick but at least the sun is shining.

Matt Albiges is a relationship coach for men. In 'Man Over Matter' he works one on one with men are ready to transform their relationships and their life. For couples who are determined to create a relationship that lasts Matt also has an awesome programme which he delivers with his wife.
Not surprising then that Matt and I hit it off the moment we first chatted.
Creating a relationship that lasts is very much about appreciating it will change. Circumstances will change. People will change. Children come along. Goals shift. There really is so many moving parts that we have evolve with it. The problems come when we do not plan for and appreciate those changes.
Having a blueprint for your relationship is a powerful way to come together, plan goals and see if you are on and off track. This might sound a bit serious and very unspontaneous to some but it simply makes sense. We have to be honest about what we want and how things are going. Are you getting your needs met? Are you ok with each others focus? Are you holding on to ever growing resentment?
For many of us we can see what is going wrong. We just do not know how to fix it. A blueprint - an shared vision - at least creates the space for honest and open communication.
The other key element for any man in a relationship is not to allow the relationship to become the only focus in his life. You have to make time for yourself so you can be a better partner. It is vital to have a life of your own. I look at this as the buckets of your life. If any of those buckets are running empty then it will impact all other areas. For your own self worth you need time with your friends, you need a decent level of fitness and you need some down time to re-energise.
Of course make sure you partner does to.
This episode of the Team Super Dad podcast is a very positive and useful cheat sheet for your relationship - or even future relationship.

It's the weekly wrap up. I have new mics and kit so the audio is sounding better than ever. Great to be evolving Team Super Dad.
Each Friday is a run down of highlights from my week, my family and progress with Team Super Dad.
This week I've been rock climbing, attending more expensive courses and dealing with my kids hitting puberty at the same time.
I'm still working on the dating subject. Definitely going to need to get some experts on the Team Super Dad podcast to help with this one.
