I’m really pleased to bring you today’s episode, with Sarah from My Independent Midwife. Sarah founded this service alongside her long time colleague and friend Jenny.
She qualified in 2008 and knew that immediately wanted to work within a case loading model. For the first two years of her career, she worked as a Private Midwife for ‘The Private Birth Centre' in Northwich, Cheshire. Here, she became expert at empowering, advocating and facilitating births for people from all kinds of birthing backgrounds, beliefs and philosophies. Many of these births were births after a traumatic experience, and she saw for myself how healing and empowering birth can be when it's on your terms. In 2010, she then worked within a classical hospital setting and got to the point where she was birth centre manager.
Now she works as a private independent midwife, focused on providing continuity of carer throughout your pregnancy, birth and postnatal period so you will always know exactly who you can contact for support and who will provide all of your care.
Today we explore the benefits of independent midwife care, the constraints within the existing model of care that you can access via the NHS, common misconceptions with independent midwifery and the magic of when midwives and doulas work together.
I can’t wait to share, so get yourselves comfortable and enjoy today’s episode.
