Personal growth for women starts with a question most of us skip: why do I feel guilty spending on myself? If you're the one everyone trusts with money and you still put the good moisturizer back on the shelf, this episode is for you. I'll show you the belief hiding in your checkbook, the CPA reframe that moves you into the other column, and one small money move to make before Sunday.
IN THIS EPISODE: Name the Worth Wound, the belief that investing in yourself is selfish. See why spending guilt hits the capable woman hardest, not the careless one. Learn the accounting reframe that moves you from expense to asset. Leave with a three-step money move built on The 5% Rule
KEY TAKEAWAYS
1. Being good with money never meant being invisible in the budget.
2. You're not an expense to cut. You belong in the asset column.
3. You can be good with money and good to yourself. That's Both/And.

ABOUT THE SHOW
The Joy Shift is the podcast for women in midlife who are ready to stop waiting for permission. Identity, reinvention, relationships, and the mindset shifts this season of life asks of you. Real conversations, real frameworks, no fluff.
Topics: midlife friendship, making friends in midlife, midlife women, personal growth for women, starting over at 50, self discovery journey, confidence after 50

There’s a season of life no one really prepares you for: when your parents begin needing you at the same time your children still do.
You’re booking your mother’s cardiology appointment and your son’s orthodontist appointment. Your father calls when something goes wrong. Your kids call when something goes wrong. And somewhere in the middle of holding everyone else, there’s a question nobody seems to ask:
Who is holding you?
In this episode of The Joy Shift, I’m talking about the emotional weight of caring for an aging parent while still raising or supporting your own family—and why what looks like a scheduling problem is often something much deeper.
This conversation is personal for me. My mom is 83, and I’m beginning to see a softness around the edges of the woman I’ve always known as strong, independent, and almost unbreakable. I love her deeply. I’m grateful she’s here. And sometimes, caring for someone you love is exhausting.
Those things can all be true.
We’re unpacking the guilt that tells women, “I should just be grateful I still have her,” and the belief that wanting five minutes, one afternoon, or one small piece of your own life back somehow makes you selfish.
It doesn’t.
This is the both/and of this season: you can love your parent and feel stretched by what they need. You can be grateful and tired. You can show up for the people you love without disappearing from your own life.
In this episode, we talk about:
If you’re standing in this complicated middle—loving your parents, loving your children, and wondering where you fit into all of it—I hope this episode gives you permission to stop choosing between being a good daughter, a good mother, and a whole woman.
You belong in the equation, too.
Knowing changes nothing. Choosing changes everything.

If you're chasing midlife reinvention but can't figure out where the time, money, or energy would even come from, this episode is for you. We talk about why your calendar and your bank account are already telling on you, and the one small allocation that turns a someday wish into something real. By the end you'll have a four part framework and a 30 day experiment you can start this week.
IN THIS EPISODE
You'll see what your calendar is telling you about what you value, whether you want to hear it or not
You'll get the four part framework for funding any dream. Time, energy, money, and support
You'll hear the story behind five published novels, starting with a password protected Google Doc
You'll walk away with one 30 day experiment you can start this week. No five year plan required
KEY TAKEAWAYS
1. Your calendar is a values document, even when the truth is hard to hear.
2. A wish gets leftovers. A protected desire gets a line item.
3. You don't have to fund the whole dream. You only have to fund the next honest test.

:One must examine one's calendar to discern what truly occupies our time and attention.
Financial expenditures should reflect our genuine values rather than merely addressing external obligations.
Recognizing the energy we expend on others is crucial to reclaiming our own vitality and aspirations.
Desire does not negate gratitude; one can cherish their current life while yearning for personal growth.
Allocating even a small amount of time, energy, or resources for personal desires is essential for genuine fulfillment.
Support from others is a vital resource; it does not indicate weakness but rather a wise acknowledgment of our needs.
You’ve built a good life. You’re responsible, capable, and maybe even successful in a career you worked hard to create.
So why does that little voice keep asking, “Is this really what I want to do with the next part of my life?”
If you’re considering a career change in your 40s or 50s—or simply feeling restless and wondering what’s next—you don’t have to quit your job, start a business, go back to school, or completely reinvent yourself to find the answer.
In this episode of The Joy Shift, Kiley explores a different approach to navigating change in midlife: experiment before you decide.
Instead of asking, “Should I quit?” you’ll learn to ask, “What could I test?”
Kiley shares how small, low-risk experiments can help you gather real information about what energizes you, what you’re curious about, and what you may want more of in this next chapter—without putting your financial stability or the life you’ve already built at risk.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
You don’t need a five-year plan by Friday.
You might just need one small experiment that helps you discover what could be next.
Your Joy Shift: Instead of asking yourself, “Should I blow up my life and start over?” ask, “What is one small thing I could test?”RESOURCES

Midlife reinvention starts with one sentence, the one running under everything else you tell yourself. In this episode of The Joy Shift, we cover a two week study on self-talk and what happened when people switched from panic mode to talking to themselves like a trusted friend. Kiley shares the sentence that showed up right before she recorded episode one, and the practice that got her through it anyway. By the end, you'll have a three step tool, catch it, name it, shift it, ready to use this week.
IN THIS EPISODE
Why most self-talk happens on autopilot, and the small switch that makes you feel steadier before anything hard
How to spot the Gratitude Bind, the guilt that keeps you from wanting more in midlife
The real story behind the sentence "who do you think you are," and where it started
A three step practice, catch it, name it, shift it, ready to use this week
KEY TAKEAWAYS
1. You don't have to fully believe in the woman you're becoming before you start becoming her.
2. The Gratitude Bind uses what you're grateful for to silence what you're still reaching for.
3. You can't change a sentence you don't know you're saying
Have you spent so many years taking care of everyone else that you’re no longer entirely sure what you want?
That question can become especially loud in midlife. The kids grow up. Work changes. The calendar gets quieter. And underneath all the roles you’ve spent years fulfilling, another question begins to surface: Who am I when no one else gets to answer that for me?
In this episode of The Joy Shift, Kiley Suarez explores midlife reinvention and the “permission trap”—the realization that sometimes we aren’t actually waiting for more time, better circumstances, or the right season. We’re waiting for permission to want something that belongs only to us.
For Kiley, that realization surfaced when she found herself wanting to write a novel in her 50s. Writing became more than a creative pursuit; it became a doorway back to a part of herself she hadn’t lost—she simply hadn’t made room for her.
You’ll hear:
Because maybe your second act isn’t about becoming someone completely new.
Maybe it’s about coming home to yourself.

This episode is for women navigating midlife reinvention, career change after 40, and that quiet feeling of being lost in midlife once the roles finally get quiet. If you're an empty nest mom rebuilding your sense of self or asking who am I after the kids leave, this one's for you.

If you're an accomplished woman moving through an identity shift in midlife and you freeze the second someone asks what you actually want, this episode of The Joy Shift is for you. Being looked at was never your problem. You've led meetings and hosted holidays without your voice shaking. Being seen while you're becoming someone new is a different fear altogether, and this episode names exactly why it happens and what to do about it this week.
In this episode:
Why the fear of being "seen" is nothing like the fear of being looked at, and why competent women confuse the two.
The exact moment guilt shows up right after a real desire does, and why that guilt was never wisdom.
Kiley's own experience of saying out loud, "I'm a romance author, I'm a life coach, I host a podcast," and what it taught her about being witnessed
Why confidence shows up after you act, not before, and how Safe Experimentation lets you practice being a beginner again
The one sentence Kiley wants you to say to one safe person this week, and why you don't need a giant announcement to start changing your life
Takeaways worth saving:
"You cannot become someone in secret." Change starts with one honest conversation, not a dramatic leap.
Gratitude and desire live in the same heart. Wanting more doesn't cancel out being thankful for what you already built.
Confidence doesn't come first. It comes after you keep showing up.

This episode of The Joy Shift covers identity shift midlife, permission to start over, and what it actually feels like for accomplished women feeling unfulfilled to admit they want something different. If you're a midlife woman working on confidence in midlife and the fear of being witnessed while you change, this conversation is for you.
If you want more confidence after 50, this episode names the exact habit that's been shrinking you long before you noticed. Kiley breaks down the small, invisible moves capable women make to take up less space, the disclaimer before the good idea, the dropped voice at the end of a sentence, and the belief underneath it all called the Worth Wound. By the end you'll have one 5% shift you can make this week, in a real room you already own.
IN THIS EPISODE
Why you keep shrinking even after you've earned every credential in the room
The Worth Wound, the quiet belief that being seen is selfish
A personal story from Kiley's coaching certification room and what she almost talked herself out of
The 5% Rule and one sentence you can say this week to build real confidence after 50
KEY TAKEAWAYS
1. You're not shrinking because you lack confidence. You're shrinking because you learned it works.
2. Being seen isn't vanity. It's the price of growth.
3. You were never too much. You just got very good at being less.

You Haven't Failed. You've Outgrown It.
You built the life you were supposed to want. So why does it feel like it belongs to someone else?
This episode names the thing you've been driving home with for years. You're not burned out. You're not ungrateful. You've outgrown the identity you built your life around — and two specific traps have been keeping you from telling the truth about it. By the end of this episode, you'll understand what's actually happening, why rest won't fix it, and two things you can do this week without blowing up anything.
WHAT YOU'LL HEAR Why the quiet gap you feel isn't ingratitude. It's information your life is trying to give you.
