Notably, one previously selected female juror requested to be excused and was replaced by another woman, maintaining the total at ten jurors.

In a parallel development, Read's defense team petitioned the United States Supreme Court to dismiss two of the three charges against her, including second-degree murder, on the grounds of double jeopardy. They argue that jurors from the initial trial had privately acquitted her of these charges. Despite this appeal, jury selection is set to continue into the following week, with six more jurors needed to complete the panel of sixteen, comprising twelve primary jurors and four alternates.
