In May 2024, Charles Randall stood at the Solid Rock pulpit and told the room he was backing JP Miller "for the duration." He labeled Mica Miller's death "a little bump in the road" and denied all allegations of misconduct. After thirty-four million people watched Netflix's Death of a Pastor's Wife, Randall has offered no comment, no interview, and no defense of the man he once vowed to stand beside. His silence says more than any press release.

Randall is not the only one who went quiet. But his counterpart chose a different tactic. Mark Kaufman — JP's best man, business partner at a Myrtle Beach piano bar, and the man who received power of attorney over JP's entertainment company shares — issued a written statement saying JP "was never part of the core group" of friends he regularly kept. Wedding footage and pulpit recordings from the morning after Mica's death tell a different story. A former Solid Rock pastor told the documentary Kaufman phoned her within minutes of her resignation, insisting she could not leave JP.

Bernard Kenerson, who earned an elder title at Solid Rock, walked away a week after Mica died. Even with that title, he says he had no access to the church's $5.59 million property portfolio, the ministry airplane, or the eleven vehicles on church paper. His word for JP: "not the man I thought he was." When his own photos with JP surfaced, he clarified publicly that he was "never close friends" with the pastor.

The congregation did its distancing without a single statement. Seven hundred worshippers became a handful at gyms and empty storefronts. JP Miller has entered a not-guilty plea to federal cyberstalking and false-statement charges. His October 2026 trial approaches.

Kevin Reddington filed a Rule 25(b)(2) motion on September 10 asking Judge Sullivan to enter a finding of Not Guilty by Reason of Lack of Criminal Responsibility on all charges against Lindsay Clancy. The hearing is scheduled for September 29 — the same date DA Tim Cruz is expected to indicate whether the state retries. The timing appears deliberate: Reddington is forcing the prosecution to respond to his motion before a second trial gains momentum.

Defense attorney Bob Motta joins the show to break down the legal architecture of the filing. Reddington concedes in the motion that a hung jury doesn't ordinarily terminate jeopardy. His argument is narrower: that the holdout juror's reported admission of reasonable doubt, combined with his alleged refusal to apply the court's instructions, means the mistrial was not a "manifest necessity." If Sullivan finds merit in that argument, double jeopardy attaches and the prosecution loses the right to retry.

Motta also dissects the prosecution's credibility problem. The Commonwealth's trial theory — that Lindsay staged her suicide attempt while simultaneously arguing she killed because she wanted to die — was reportedly rejected by 11 of 12 jurors. Going back with the same theory risks the same result. Going back with a new one invites the defense to ask why the state changed its story.

The plea deal dynamics are equally complicated. Reddington told ABC's "Good Morning America" he hoped Cruz would "revisit" the case, then told CNN he won't agree to any deal involving incarceration. Foreperson Roni Carlson was filling out the verdict forms. Eleven jurors had reportedly agreed that the prosecution failed to prove Lindsay Clancy was criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children. Then one man allegedly admitted reasonable doubt — and refused to apply the legal standard he swore an oath to follow. The foreperson told NBC10 Boston she had already begun signing the paperwork when the holdout said he still wasn't going to vote not guilty by reason of insanity.

Defense attorney Bob Motta joins the show to dissect the legal mechanics of what happened inside the jury room and why the system had no remedy. Reddington asked Judge Sullivan to remove the holdout, arguing the juror was not following instructions. Sullivan declined. Reddington filed an emergency appeal with the Massachusetts SJC, arguing the juror's conduct reflected bias against mental illness. The SJC denied the appeal, and Sullivan declared a mistrial on September 4 after 38 hours of deliberation over seven days.

Since the mistrial, multiple jurors have spoken publicly. Nick Dargie told ABC News the holdout wouldn't engage with fellow jurors, reportedly spent deliberation time scrolling his phone, and couldn't cite a single witness or exhibit supporting his position. Dargie told ABC the man picked up a piece of physical evidence from the case during deliberations.

The criminal responsibility instruction in Lindsay Clancy’s trial asks a jury to navigate double negatives, undefined legal terms, and a burden of proof that runs backwards from what most people expect. The prosecution has to prove she was sane — not the defense proving she wasn’t. Fewer than one in three jurors understand the reasonable doubt standard in comprehension studies. Massachusetts has a plain-language drafting guide. They didn’t apply it to this charge.

On top of that, the jury was handed two commands that cancel each other. Follow the law whether you agree with it or not. Your verdict must be the result of your own convictions. The foreperson described signing all three verdict forms before the holdout reversed himself. Another juror defended the holdout in words that echo the instruction itself. The holdout has not spoken.

When the defense pushed the judge to re-read the reasonable doubt standard with force, his response from the bench lays bare a system where checking the box is the job — and whether anyone can use the instructions is someone else’s problem. The highest court in the state has admitted the deadlock charge “has a sting.” They still use it.

DA Cruz has not said whether he’ll retry. Hearing is September 29th.

D4vd is not the only person facing legal consequences in the Celeste Rivas Hernandez case. The family's wrongful death lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, names David Anthony Burke's mother Colleen Burke, his management team, and his business entities as defendants. The complaint alleges each played a role in the system that the family says kept Celeste hidden.

The lawsuit describes an inner circle that allegedly knew about the relationship and facilitated the logistics. A bodyguard who allegedly drove a minor to the residence. Managers who the family says were in a position to intervene and did not. A mother who the family alleges was financially dependent on the career the arrangement surrounded.

Burke's high-profile attorneys withdrew from the criminal case before his most recent arraignment. Blair Berk, who previously represented major celebrities, and Marilyn Bednarski asked the court to let them go. A public defender was appointed. Burke pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and other charges.

Celeste Rivas Hernandez's remains were found in the trunk of a Tesla registered to Burke at a Hollywood impound lot in September 2025. She was 14. Prosecutors allege the relationship began when she was 13 and he was 18. The DA's office has not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty.

Colleen Burke — d4vd's mother — allegedly managed his finances and approved the bills. Josh Marshall booked international tours prosecutors say included Celeste.

Burke's former financial manager testified he earned roughly ten to eleven and a half million dollars between 2023 and 2025. Three attorneys withdrew from his defense on August 31, the same day he pleaded not guilty.

The family's attorney alleges Burke transferred assets to his mother and that the inner circle profited.

Seven days. Twelve jurors. Seven weeks of testimony. Psychiatric experts on both sides. And the Lindsay Clancy murder trial at Plymouth Superior Court came down to one man who admitted he had reasonable doubt and still refused to vote for acquittal.

The jurors are speaking publicly for the first time. Foreperson Roni Carlson said the holdout told the room he had reasonable doubt about Clancy's guilt after watching a recorded interview played in evidence. Carlson began signing the verdict forms. Then the holdout reversed and said he would not change his position.

Other jurors said the holdout disregarded testimony explanations from nurses serving on the jury. Juror Paula Devlin called him arrogant and said he refused to engage with information that contradicted his position. The jury sent a formal note to Judge William Sullivan stating one member was not following the court's reasonable doubt instructions.

The psychological toll on the jury was severe. Jurors described being physically sick leaving the courthouse. The 911 call Patrick Clancy made after discovering what happened on January 24, 2023 left jurors in tears every night.

Lindsay Clancy was charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Cora, Dawson, and Callan. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington conceded the killings and argued postpartum psychosis.

Mica Miller told police she was being stalked. She reported tracking devices on her car. She told officers she was afraid for her life. And the community she turned to for support chose the man she was accusing.

Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach was the center of both Mica's and JP Miller's lives. He was the pastor. She was the worship leader. When the marriage began to fracture and Mica started documenting what she described as surveillance, harassment, and coercive control, members of the congregation rallied around JP. Mica was isolated within the institution she had given her life to.

On April 27, 2024, Mica was found dead at Lumber River State Park in North Carolina. Her death was ruled a suicide. She had served JP with divorce papers two days earlier. JP Miller preached at her memorial. Mica's friends say the way he spoke about her body from that pulpit was the clearest window into the dynamic she had been trying to escape.

Federal prosecutors have charged JP Miller with cyberstalking and making false statements to investigators. He has pleaded not guilty. A Netflix documentary explores the marriage and the alleged pattern of control.
