Some may not think it, but finances can be fun.

It can be stressful for everyone.

I want to do travel too, but I can’t afford it.

I want too buy that, but I can’t afford it.

It is something you heard as a kid from your parents. And you may have said it to a kids.

Our guests today want to make finances fun for your kids and family.

Chuck Jaffe has followed the rich journalistic history of “comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable” in the financial services world. For a decade, he wrote the “Stupid Investment of the Week” column for MarketWatch, highlighting the conditions and characteristics that made all types of securities less than ideal for average investors, uncovering in the process a rogues’ gallery of dreadful issues and bad ideas. He is also known for terrorizing the mutual fund industry with his annual “Lump of Coal Awards,” bestowed on entities in the mutual fund world for action, conduct, performance or attitude that is “bumbling, offensive, disingenuous, reprehensible or just plain stupid.”

Determined to be more than just another insurance salesman, Tammy founded The Financial Guides. She set about working with clients in a totally different fashion.  Feeling that everyone needs a sound financial education she created her first class“Financial Journeys”. The goal was to provide the accurate, unbiased, basic information in simple English that we all require, but can’t easily find. Knowing that the best way to learn is by having fun and being comfortable, Tammy takes good care of her guests with excellent food and lots of laughter. Further expanding her educational and value added offerings Tammy created “Sandwich Safaris”, “Business Builder Nights”, and “Small Business Class”.

    Topics we cover;

    Personal Journey’s.

What was your mindset around money as a kid? How has it changed as an adult?

    Why is finances so stressful?

How have you found finances fun? Why is that important?

  • The Christian Church, #MeToo and #ChurchToo
This is the 4th episode we have talked aboutMeToo

You may have noticed that I start any MeToo with Alexis story. The reason is this and many other stories.

There has been another movement that has come up. It’s called church too.According to many users, the origin of #ChurchToo was traced to two women.Writer Hannah Paasch and spoken word poet. The date was around the end of November.

It has been in response to the issue inside the church. That for some, there has been a shroud of secrecy, silence, and abuse of biblical power on this. For others, many leaders like Franklin Graham, Denny Burk , and even newer voice Allie Beth Stuckey has said.

It has opened the door to some questions and anger. But it has also led to a shrug for many. Why? Because they have expected this. They don’t expect anything different.

But, you know what there are leaders trying to navigate through this. Three of them our guests today.

Rev. Kayko Driedger Hesslein, PhD.is a pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada with a Jewish American husband. I have two sons, and a PhD in Systematic Theology (and an Allied Field in History) from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. I am currently the interim pastor at Advent, Calgary, and I also teach theology as an adjunct faculty member at the Lutheran Theological Seminary - Saskatoon.

Kevin Powell is a Pastor, First Lutheran Church, Calgary @FLCCalgary, President, Alberta Pastoral Care Association @ABPastoralCare.

Nicholas Coates is the co-host of prayer & private parts: a podcast about sex and Jesus

  • The Dangers of Sex Trafficking
    Sex Trafficking.

It’s not a topic that gets a lot of conversation.
    Not on the kitchen table.
    Not at the restaurant.
    Not at parties.

And we assume , because we live in well to do in North America, that it doesn’t happen here.

It couldn’t possibly happen in a city like Calgary Alberta. But it does.

It couldn’t possibly happen in a city like Vancouver B.C..But it does.

I could go on naming cities, but the fact is it does.

Facts about Sex Trafficking. According to Bustle.com

The Trafficking Of Women & Children Is The World's Fastest Growing Crime

There Are An Estimated 24.9 Million People Trapped In Forced Labor Via Human Trafficking Worldwide

The Joy Smith Foundation works to ensure that every Canadian man, woman and child is safe from manipulation, force, or abuse of power designed to lure and exploit them into the sex trade or forced labour.

As an educator, Stephanie Anderson is passionate about empowering our nation’s youth. When one of Stephanie’s former students was charged for trafficking adolescents in her small town, Stephanie felt compelled to join the Joy Smith Foundation to combat the issue. Now, it is her joy and privilege to serve our Alberta youth by training them, as well as adults, through JSF workshops across the province.

  • Health, Reiki, Mindfulness-The Healing Roots with Eleni Ottalagana
As we start this, I’d like to start with asking some questions for you.

How are you? I don’t ask this in “I’m fine” small talk sort of way. I ask How are you?
How is your nutrition? In the midst of doing the many things you do for your family, how are you eating?
Deeper, how is your stress? According to The American Institute of Stress 77% Percent of people who regularly experience physical symptoms caused by stress.
Do you have a routine? Walking, yoga, or even reiki.

The answer to that question for many of us will be quite different. Some have got this somewhat figured out. Some are trying but still needs some support.

Eleni Otta-lagana, RDN, LD received a dual degree from the University Of New Hampshire in Nutrition-Dietetics and EcoGastronomy. Through this dual major, she explored the holistic nature of food and health through the integration of nutrition and sustainable agriculture in New Hampshire and Italy. Eleni completed her dietetic internship at Virginia-Tech.
During this time and earlier on in her life, she struggled with autoimmunity, IBS and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Her will to lead a healthy life free of diagnoses and medications led her on a personal healing journey. Through a whole body approach with the guidance of other functional practitioners and healing modalities, Eleni healed her body, reversed her diagnoses and maintains health through her lifestyle. Eager to spread this care and knowledge she worked in various job settings to help guide others.
