The Key of Solomon Podcast

On December 20, 2014, the stars aligned and a gig - which after many months of planning and promotion - took place.

Sultan Music (re-branding soon, stand by) and Eureka Rebellion Trading combined their powers and hosted the first inaugural Christmas Extravaganza - Silent Night, Deafly Night. The Evelyn Hotel in Fitzroy was the home for the evening, and Dead City Ruins, Desecrator, Electrik Dynamite and Witchgrinder were the entertainment.

We were honoured to interview each band before they played, and wrapped up a couple of days later with a retrospective with the men behind the show, Simon Christian and Anthony Allayialis.

Listen as we talk about meat raffles, double yolkers, Japan, Ghost (again), house reds, John Renzo, lesbians, Whitfield Crane, the coloured Kingwood and pants-off parties.

We spoke to local legend Choppaz about his life in and around hardcore bands. The dude made a name for himself doing vocals in the influential Tenth Dan. We also spoke about his current band Rust Proof, being loud and proud, his problems with the Australian scene, the Geelong curse, Old School Cartel and how $5 cans of Coke can fuck international acts.

We spoke to John Raptis about meeting people using social media (and being prolific on it), rad tours that you never knew he was there for, and whether meeting your idols is a good thing or a bad thing - and how much you should be charging them for your work.

'I make shit look rad...' sounds like a pretty simple job description. Right? Gus Beeforth is a graphic designer who, when he's not creating all the Key of Solomon logos and font layouts, is the Senior Graphic Designer for the AFL Geelong Cats.

We talk Spirit Warriors, Amy Winehands, scamming Spotify, round sunnies at Meredith, and Katy-Perry-with-a-(Melbourne)-beard.

The front-of-house live mixer can make or break a band. Mick is that dude. Chances are, if you've seen a show in the last few years at The Hifi Bar in Melbourne, Mick was mixing it. We talk about his job, his years spent touring as a mixer and bassist for Psycroptic, and the waning days of non-Facebook internet news.
