Life has a funny way of working out.

And, by “funny,” I mean it’s also sometimes harsh and cruel.

In relationships and circumstances, we often have a movie reel in our mind of how things will turn out in the years to come.

But in the case of sudden change, we are forced to let go of this vision as a possibility.

Divorce. Death of a loved one. Job loss. Natural disaster. All of these events force us to deal with a large amount of front-facing trauma. As a result, often these “future memory” reels, that we’ve already lived in our heads, hit us later on unexpectedly. 

In our mind, we’ve had the house, the life, the pets, and the kids. We’ve gone on vacations, had holidays, and grown old together. We’ve excelled at the job and earned accolades galore.

Only to be faced with a new reality of different. And we wonder…does anyone else understand? How can we move on? Will we ever have that again…or for the first time?

In this episode, we de-stigmatize the mourning of this loss, discussing how to allow ourselves to honor future memories lost, then heal, learn, and grow from them. 

These futures that will now never occur as we imagined them are still a part of us. They show us bits and pieces of who we are, what we want, and what we’ve been through. If we choose to use them as a guiding light, we can more fluidly flow into the new life we are now meant to live.

I have spent an awful lot of time over the last few years feeling very very alone.

Alone is different than solitude. It is different than independence. It can be experienced with a crowd or a partner, or family who maybe doesn’t see you, acknowledge you, or believe in you.

Alone can be all in your head (which is normal) or out for the world to see (also normal); and it can be hard to get out of, especially if it has become a part of your survival, which for many of us it has.

Through our trauma.

Through covid. 

Through a divorce or breakup.

Through being denied our identity.

Through what we are all going through right now.

Yet there are people who don’t understand. Alone, to them, looks like independence, freedom, or defiance.

What they are perceiving is what I call selective solitary. Flying solo. ALONE is something entirely different. 

In this episode, we point out the differences, difficulties, and challenges that many people may not realize are inherent in feeling alone and then talk about how to come out of it. We also talk about your courage.

For this one, I am learning and feeling right alongside you. Let’s come together and begin.

Sounds pretty nasty, right? Well, I hate to disappoint, but my scar wasn’t actually from a bear attack. But the story behind it, and the lesson it can teach us pertaining to hatred and rejection, is invaluable.

In this episode, we delve into the category of automatic assumption, judgment, and misunderstanding; then, using my body’s rejection of sutures thinking they are not good for me, we talk whole-heartedly about how we can, instead, choose to ask questions, open our minds and hearts, and self-reflect in order to challenge and overcome bias and hatred, something that is better for us all. 

We go through a list of 8 ways to more actively and compassionately understand one another, move past any hang-ups, give back, and realize the GOOD in our differences.

At a time when we need understanding the most, let us come together to explore how we can defeat the nasty beast of hate by learning how to listen, embrace, and love.

It sounds cliché. But in this tumultuous time, when many of us are feeling disempowered and overwhelmed, the things we typically see as weaknesses may actually be or point to our hidden strengths. 

After an unplanned month-long hiatus, I use myself as the example, diving right into discussing how the main four “weaknesses” that have kept me away can be rephrased and re-perceived. 

Specifically, we address:

3) Perfectionism

4) Insecurity; feeling weak, beat-down, and unsupported
