In this episode of the Khalis Podcast, Kiranjot Chahal of the Decolonized Library Project based in Toronto, speaks about postsecular and postmodern theories, as well as decolonial scholarship and work.

We discuss Sikhi and Gurmat in relation to these theories and consider the role of the Sikhs within spaces that seek to address the problems caused by coloniality.

Kiranjot is an academic, writer and educator with a BA in the study of Religion and an MA in Religion, Culture and Global Justice. Her doctoral research centers on bodies of literature that concern postsecularism, postcolonial theories, as well as ideas in the philosophy of religion.

We specifically discuss 3 texts - 'Charitropakhyan', 'Chankya Rajniti' and 'Chaubis Avtar' - looking at their origins and purpose within the Anandpur Darbar. We also address some of the wider themes and knowledge imparted by these texts and why some folk continue to question the authenticity of the texts.

We touch upon the challenges that university Sikh societies face in the UK, inter-society initiatives, accessibility of Sikh learning resources,  'Decolonizing the Curriculum', unity and the overall goal of student bodies. We also discuss the importance of collaboration between students and graduates/post-graduates in the transition from university to working life.

One of the common talking points to have emerged from this Podcast series, is the ongoing Farmer’s Protest on the outskirts of Delhi. Most of our guests have spoken about the impact it has had on them and their work. As the Sikh and Panjabi diaspora continue to watch from a far, we all feel see the farmers' desire to bring change, but we also see the injustice and the heavy-handed response from the Indian state and police.

That's why we felt it would only be appropriate to help amplify voices from the ground. We wanted to speak with someone from Delhi; someone who has first-hand experience and knowledge of the ground reality.

In this episode we speak with Japleen Kaur, who is a student with a graduate degree in Psychology from University of Delhi. She is currently volunteering at the Singhu Border to support the farmers. Japleen is also an amatuer photographer (@kaursgallery) and freelance writer, and she has been documenting her time at the Andolan, via her IG page Kaurs Gallery.
