The next part of Paul's interpretative process is the focus of union with Christ for all believers. The conclusion of chapter three is the charter of the New Testament Church and the ground of her invincible claim to be the lawful successor of Abraham, the true Israel, the true circumcision (not in the flesh but in the spirit), the inheritor of the promises and privileges and hope of Old Testament Israel. The last words of chapter 3, "heirs according to promise," are now further discussed in chapter 4.

Paul, anticipating the questions or line of thought from those opposing his gospel, knows they're going to be like, "Ok. well if all of what you said was true and the covenant promised to Abraham was for him and his SEEDfulfilled by Jesus then why the law?  What was the purpose of the Law?  The answer is found in this next section.

Still dealing with the theological content of the Abrahamic Covenant, along with the historical relationship between it and the Mosaic Covenant, Paul reminds his audience that will and contracts between men remained intact until their fulfillment.  In the same way, the covenant promise God made with Abraham was not rendered void by the covenant God made with Moses.

This episode answers a listener's question about Jesus and hell.  Did Jesus go to hell?  If so, how?  It's the Apostles Creed that states that Jesus descended into hell and there are many who can point you to specific scriptures but is that what they are saying when placed in context?  So, Marcuss gives some history, some texts, some common interpretations, and then the Biblical interpretation to come to the answer that many debate.

The Apostle Paul has made many points to the Galatians and following the example of Abraham, He follows up citing Old Testament texts in relation to the Law, the curse, and the blessing.  All of this is in anticipation of the responses he knew would come and Paul fills in every little hole.
