Okay Okay, most of you already know the way Marcuss believes when it comes to eschatology.  But the thing is that most would actually believe the same way if they questioned western evangelicalism, went through scripture, and asked, "What does God's Word mean when referring to the "last days"?  What is the biblical standard for that phrase?  Who does it involve and when?  So, Marcuss starts in Genesis and works through many Old Testament texts and then moves to the New to ask if they all align.  All of that answers the questions concerning the last days.

We're working our way through the second of five warnings in this book.  The author is still drawing from the history of Israel dealing with their disobedience to God and how He dealt with them.  There are a few texts in Hebrews that some will claim deal with how one can lose their salvation.  This is one of those sections.  But although an entire generation lost out entering the promised land are we to believe Moses lost his salvation as well?  And speaking of the promised land, the author mentions rest.  What is exactly God's rest and how does one enter it?

Hebrews 3:1 thru 4:16 comprise the second of five warning passages in the book. 3:1-6 is a call to faithfulness, as Christ was faithful as the author uses Moses and the faithlessness of Israel in the wilderness as an illustration of what we're not to do.

In answer to the question, why did Jesus need to become lower than angels, the writer begins with his explanation.  And in this, the humanity of Jesus is revealed along with the reason.  The author will also begin to introduce Christ as the high priest and in first doing so speaks of the destruction of the devil.

In chapter one of Hebrews, there are no commands for the church. They are not told to do anything. The whole chapter is a declaration and celebration of God's final word to the world - Jesus Christ the Son of God. That's the point of chapter one. Now in chapter two, he begins with a command or a duty - something they and we must do.

So we saw last week that the author of this letter started off by speaking about how God has spoken to us in the person of his son and presented the excellencies of the Son in a sevenfold matter and now has set out to prove that Christ is superior to angels.  The author will also show the utter subordinated relationship in which angels stand to the redeemer.

Probably one of the most challenging of the New Testament letters as well as rewarding.So to start we need some info, as usual, such as the author, the audience, and the time frame in which this was penned. And then with the first four texts, we are presented with the writer's primary purpose in writing and it reveals his plan for how he will instruct his arguments.  The theme is the superiority of Christ in God's plan and God has worked in a variety of ways to reveal Himself.  But all that revelation culminated in His Son Jesus Christ.

Nothing is so far apart in scripture that it makes no sense.  In Numbers, which is considered part of the Mosaic Law, it is God's law that both brought sin to light and led to the solution.  And as we will see in John it does the same, pointing to Jesus for our salvation.

The crowds call out expressions of desperation, "Save us now" and calling Jesus the "King of Israel."  And as He looks upon the city of Jerusalem, He weeps, knowing that their reception of Him is superficial and momentary.

We’ve largely set aside what it is that makes us different.  We’ve set aside the very source of that power – Christ Himself.  We’ve set aside the sufficiency of the Word of God and replaced it with secular humanistic self-help books and programs only to find ourselves worse off than before.  If the Word of God is not enough to address hardships, weaknesses, failures, heartaches, and everything else in this life then nothing else will work either. But if a disciplined, in‐depth study of the Word of God is the medicine then it can heal us of our sickness of sin.
